[ the story, the play ]

As you already found it out, S-TILEZ means SEX-TILES indeed
(Not XXX-rated, though). But the idea of the game has nothing
to deal	with sex. We just decided that nude girls are the most
pleasant view you can see after completing the level... OK, let's
move to the game's interface and goal.

S-TILEZ require a mouse to play. Left mouse click is used to
open tiles and is equal to "press any key" action and answering
"YES" to any questions. Right mouse click is equal to pressing
Esc and answering "NO" to any questions. (You can also use a
keyboard, but you cannot open tiles with it). Special keys are
assigned for particular actions. Those are "S" for "Start",
"H" for "Help", "C" for "Credits", "Q" for "Quit" in main menu.

The number of levels in S-TILEZ is... no, figure it out yourself :)
On every level you will be given a set of randomly-placed pairs of
tiles, covering the area. (Every two tiles with the same icon are
the pair). You need to memorize where pairs are located, then...
Oops! all tiles are closed, and timer starts the countdown!
	Be quick and smart now.

Click on any closed tile to open it and see the icon. Now click
on other closed tile which you think is having the same icon. If
you succeed to open a pair, both tiles will disappear... wow!
there's	some picture underneath! Now search for another pair, etc.
If you open a tile with the unmatched icon, first open tile will
close, so you will need to open it again later. Level is complete
when you remove all tiles and timer has not reached zero. After
that you can proceed to the next level. Levels are ordered with
increasing difficulty, starting	from small and easy to remember
sets and moving on to large and complicated ones.

There are three difficulty settings in S-TILEZ: Easy, Medium and
Hard. You cannot select them, they are preset on every particular
level. On Easy setting, 5 seconds will be added to your time for
every pair you open. On Medium setting, nothing happens. On Hard
setting, 5 seconds will be removed from your time for every
unmatched tile you open. If you stuck on some level, don't panic.
The more you play, the more you train your memory and attention,
and after some time you'll surprise yourself. That is the main
	goal of S-TILEZ.

You can save your game during play so you can return to it later.
Only current level number and starting time will be saved, so if
you load a game, it will look as if you have just entered the level.

	Good Luck!

[ system requrements ]

CPU:	386DX-20 as a low limit. any Pentium will be just fine.
Memory: approx. 2 Mb of free RAM.
HDD:	approx. 13 Mb of free HDD space.
Video:	VESA 1.2 compatible SVGA card with 1 Mb of video memory.
	Sound: not used
Mouse:	Microsoft compatible mouse is REQUIRED to play S-TILEZ.
OS:	DOS 3.x or higher (further referred simply as DOS),
Windows 95 or higher (further referred simply as Windows),
OS/2 Warp 3 or higher (furhter referred simply as OS/2).

S-TILEZ is DOS-native game. One can say that DOS is obsolete
and all new programs are written for Windows etc., but on
other hand, we minded several reasons:
		1) We hate Windows.
		2) All you need to run S-TILEZ is DOS.
		3) DOS-based game can be succesfully launched under DOS,
OS/2, Windows and virtually any DOS-supporting OS.
		   Isn't that called compatibility?

[ DOS considerations ]

To launch S-TILEZ in native DOS, no EMS/XMS/DPMI memory managers are
needed. Just don't forget to load mouse driver, and you're set up.
However, you can try different combinations of EMS/XMS/DPMI managers
to see if it speeds up things (a little possible, though).

[ Windows considerations ]

No additional tunings required to launch S-TILEZ under Windows.
However, S-TILES will NOT work under Windows NT.

[ OS/2 considerations ]

For OS/2, we recommend the following program properties:
(* mark shows that corresponding setting is mandatory for S-TILEZ).
Parameters that are not mentioned below have no sense for S-TILEZ
and should be set to OFF or to their default values).

	Session: DOS fullscreen *
	DOS properties:
		DOS_BACKGROUND_EXECUTION: off *
		DPMI_DOS_API: enabled *
		DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT: 4
EMS_MEMORY_LIMIT: 0 (EMS memory not required)
		HW_ROM_TO_RAM: off
		HW_TIMER: off
		KBD_ALTHOME_BYPASS: on *
		MOUSE_EXCLUSIVE_ACCESS: on *
		VIDEO_8514A_XGA_IOTRAP: off
		VIDEO_MODE_RESTRICTION: none *
		VIDEO_ONDEMAND_MEMORY: on
		VIDEO_RETRACE_EMULATION: off
		VIDEO_ROM_EMULATION: off
		XMS_HANDLES: 0
XMS_MEMORY_LIMIT: 0 (XMS memory not required)

Keep in mind that OS/2 cannot properly restore SVGA modes in fullscreen
DOS sessions. Never change to windowed session or switch to another
application while playing S-TILEZ. This may cause blinking/distorted
screen or setting display in standby mode when you try to switch back.
If you fall into this, the choice will be to exit S-TILEZ "blindly"
from inside (the screen should be restored) or terminate it from
the Window List (the screen could stay distorted).

[ setup ]

	S-TILEZ require no additional setup.

[ problems ]

problem: [ OS/2 ] Screen becomes black, blinking or distorted when
switching from S-TILEZ to another session and back.
	       > see "OS/2 considerations" chapter

problem: [ WIN ] immediately after starting S-TILEZ, the screen
turns black and system hangs deeply. Display may go into
		 standby mode.
	       > this bug occurs on some types of video cards (S3trio64V2),
and possible cause is video driver. Problem was solved by
installing DirectX 5 video drivers (in fact, any newer
		 drivers).
