1.	INSTALLATION
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nitro Racers minimum system requirements:

    - IBM 100% Compatible
    - 486DX2 66Mhz processor (Pentium 90Mhz or better
      suggested for faster network play)
    - 8MB of RAM
    - SVGA (with VESA support in DOS mode)
    - SoundBlaster or 100% compatible sound card
    - 2X CD-ROM drive

Windows 95 Users:

To install Nitro Racers in Windows 95, Insert the CD into the CD-ROM
drive of your computer. Double click on the "My Computer" Icon and find
the appropriate Icon for your CD-ROM drive.

Double click on the CD-ROM icon to open it and view the contents of the
disk. Locate the "Install" Icon and double click on it to start the
installation of Nitro Racers.

Note: The Nitro Racers Windows 95 installer was not designed to be run
from the DOS prompt. If you launched the Windows 95 installer from DOS,
exit the installer and re-load it by double-clicking the "Install" icon.

MS-DOS Users:

To install Nitro Racers in MS-DOS, switch to the appropriate drive
letter of your CD-Rom drive (ie. D:\) and type "INSTALLD" (Note: The "D"
designation at the end of the filename signifies a DOS installation,
and not a drive letter). The DOS installer is named "INSTALLD", whereas
the Windows 95 installer is labeled "INSTALL".

When installing Nitro Racers using the DOS installer, you are given
the option of customizing the installation directory and path. Make
sure that the pathname that you supply is a legal DOS name and is less
than 48 characters in total length.

To run the game in a MS-DOS environment, you MUST have VESA support
for your video card. VESA support allows hi-res graphics in MS-DOS. If
you are not sure whether or not you have your VESA support enabled,
contact the manufacturer of your particular video card. Universal VESA
drivers are also available on the Internet, some of the more popular
ones are UniVBE and Display Doctor.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.	GAMEPLAY
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Default Game Controls:

< Z > key turns the car to the left.
< X > key turns the car to the right.
	< enter > key uses 1 Nitro.
< shift > key is the accelerator (throttle).
	< P > key pauses the game.

In the menus, use the arrow keys to move up or down menu items. If a
menu item has any options, push the left or right arrows to cycle through
the available choices.

< Enter > and < Spacebar > keys select menu items when on the
proper screen.

The escape key < Esc > can be used to exit the Shop screen, the gameplay
screen, the race placement screen, and the main menu.

On the Shop screen, use the arrow keys to move up or down. Push left
to highlight an available item for purchase. Only items which you can
afford display an animation. The cheapest items in the shop cost 10,000
pounds. If you can't afford any items, none will be highlighted.

Joysticks:

Nitro Racers detects joysticks only when loaded. If you add or remove
joysticks from the system, you must exit the game and re-start to
detect any changes.

Only Player 1's controller (which is the keyboard by default) can be
used to navigate the menus. If Player 1 accidentally switches to using
a joystick on the controller menu, press the escape key to revert back to
the previous settings.

Additional Notes:

When racing on a track, the red power up is Nitro, and the blue power
up is money.

Windows 95 users, for best performance, be sure to turn off any screen
savers that might be running on your computer when playing Nitro Racers.
Also consider exiting any applications that may be running in the
background.

Windows 95 users, do not minimize the game (using the special Windows
keys or Alt-Tab or Alt-Esc) while it is running. Minimized games may not
recover, and the game may need to be restarted.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.	NETWORK PLAY
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

When setting up a network game, always use the fastest computer as the
master machine. The slower machines in the network game should always be
the guests.

If a computer has trouble connecting to the net, plays sluggishly
during networked games, or reads incorrect player information (such
as wrong player name, car color, etc.) try switching this computer
out with another machine. If no other machines are available, try
connecting this computer in network positions 2, 3, or 4 (but never
use a slow computer as the master).

Avoid pressing the Esc key on any network waiting screens unless
necessary - this will start the race without the other network players.
You should only use the escape key to abort the network link screen if the
other computer(s) are not responding. If you wish to return to the main
menu while starting a network game, press the escape key while on the
gameplay screen (during a race). Doing this will return all systems to
the main menu screen.

If you are a guest in a network game and the starting lights count down,
but the race does not start, the host computer has not joined the game.
Have the host computer join the game, then press the escape key on each
of the guest systems, to re-synchronize all the computers and link them
into the game.

If no car animation appears, you have trouble connecting, or the system locks up
up on the Network Search screen. Verify that the network cable is connected,
and unplug any modem connections then restart your system.

4.	HINTS & TIPS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The best strategy for Nitro Racers in any mode is to calculate your turns
so that you stay on the inside apex of a turn. The closer you cut a
corner, the faster you will go through it.

When you see an opportunity to let an opponent bump the rear of your car
on a strait-a-way let him. In some cases this will prove to be a
excellent way to gain speed.

Often times there are jagged areas on the tracks that will give you the
chance to cause your opponent's car bodily harm. Act on the opportunity
to destroy a fender by running your opponent into a rock or edge, because
chances are that the car will come to a complete stop.

If you're taking turns on slick surfaces such as mud or ice, release the
gas pedal as you take the turn. Doing this will save your car from
losing traction and sliding into objects.

Try to only use your nitrous on strait-a-ways and mellow turns. A nitro
can be your best friend or worst enemy.

A good racer will always stay on the inside of the turns. If you are
taking a turn next to another car try to use him as a stopper. Often
times the car you take advantage of will be bumped into the wall giving
you the lead.

Be aware of Alcatraz! These criminal racers are pushing the cars to
their limits. Some my never pit stop! The only advice is gain a good
lead, and hire a good pit crew.

A key way to dominate your challenger is to gain the lead from the
starting point. As soon as the lights drop, fire off one of those
nitros to launch you ahead of the pack.

Here's another nitrous trick that will totally take your opponents by
surprise. As they're turning, use a nitrous so that your car accelerates
into the rear of their car causing their car to spin sideways and smash
it's headlights into the wall. If you can perfect this trick, you will
surely be a Nitro Master.

There have been reports of overzealous pit crew members. Although details
are a bit vague as to which tracks these crews work at, the reports have
even stated that drivers have pushed other racers into these pit crew's
areas forcing them to stop a second time. (Works great against the
computer, if you can pull it off!)

Keep in mind that the computer racers are adept drivers. These nutters
hardly ever bite it. They are very skilled in the art of crash derby and
will most likely prevail when ramming your car. Avoid them whenever
possible.

The computer racers also know how to keep you in the back of the pack
when in competition on muddy and icy roads. Try to avoid them as much
as possible on these surfaces.

The NRA (Nitro Racers Association) agreed that the computer racers are
so good at racing they would not be equipped with nitrous oxide.
Remember this when you need to gain the lead.

When the starting lights go down try to maneuver between the cars to
avoid getting thrashed by the computer cars. If you can't get between
them, then take the outside. Doing this will help you get the lead
soon after the race starts.

Hints and tips for multiple racers mode:

Playing in this mode definitely makes it easier to take your opponents
out of the running. A good way to gain control of the track is to knock
your opponent off course. One way is to look for a barrier that
separates two roads. When you see the opportunity, smash into the
opponent's front-end sending the car down the wrong way of the wall.
Your friend will want to kill you after pulling this stunt.

To prevent your opponents from passing, swerve in front of them so that
they bump the rear-end of your car. Two or three good bumps will give
you a good lead.
