All of our simulations are available in either standard VGA 320*200 256 color
or SVGA 640*480 256 color. The SVGA mode is astounding but needs a VERY
powerful PC to run it. If ordering SVGA please make sure your system will
be able to run it at a reasonable frame rate. Absolute minimum system for
SVGA mode is 486DX50 with local bus video card. The VGA versions will run
well on a 386DX33 with standard bus video card.

The code is 32-bit protected to make full use of the power of your PC

We did a few tests using a 386/40 and a Pentium 60L
In VGA the 386/40 ran the simulation at an average speed of 14 frames per
second. The 386 in question used a standard bus video with an Orchid PROIIS
video card. In SVGA mode the 386 only managed an average of 5 frames per
second which is very jerky.

The Pentium 60 refused to slow down at all from the maximum frame rate of
25 frames per second in VGA mode. No matter what we blew up, or how many
items we placed in the flying area, it just kept chucking out 25 fps.
In SVGA it ran at an average speed of 18 frames per second, which is
remarkable. The slowest figure the Pentium put in was 11 fps during an
intense battle sequence with polygons flying everywhere. The Pentium used
a local bus Cirrus Logic on board VESA VGA system.

A simulation really needs to run at about 10 fps or faster to handle well.
So if you have a 386 with standard video stick to the VGA versions. A 486
DX33 with local bus video might hack SVGA mode, but it would have to be one
of the hi-spec video cards sitting on the local bus, something like the
Diamond Stealth 64.

As a general guideline, if your system can run the VGA version at the full
25 frames per second all of the time, it will probably manage the SVGA
version. (Pressing ALT T in flight shows the frame rate) As a general
guideline, SVGA results in approx. 38% frame speed reduction.
Please nore however that some video cards that run fast with graphical
shells such as Microsoft Windows, can be slow with DOS games.
