                      Hammerheads v2.0

Instructions - Shareware Demo Version 2.0

In this scenario you are Jack Cody, fresh out of the Military and
you are on a mission to destroy the aliens on the planet MARS.
You will be flying the RA-84 Indo Exo Atmospheric Fighter (Hammerhead)
Spacecraft which has an atmospheric top speed of over Mach 2 (1273
mph) at altitude in the martian atmosphere.

There are three major targets including the aliens outpost in a
low orbit around Utopia Planitia which is 270 degrees from the crater.
The heading for the second target in the crater is 300 degrees from
the first alien outpost.

Destroy the 2 enemy outposts and the aliens (base) orbiting outpost
and return to your base before they take over the planet. You may
refuel and rearm back on your base on Utopia Planitia and you may
want to do it often. Be careful, you will see some alien spacecraft
orbiting mars and it will be your mission to destroy as many of the
chig fighters as you can. Watch out for Olympus Mons, however, its
higher that Mt. Everest here on earth and it can get in the way.
Always, always check your HUD radar for 'blips.'

Oh yes, I forgot to mention. There are some areas of mars which
have magnetic disruption properties and these areas may cause engine
trouble or complete engine failure. Since the alien fighters are
immune to gravitational problems, black holes, etc., they may be
loitering in these areas, beware. There are many gravity wells in
the crater, you must use caution on your controls if you plan to
survive the forces of gravity around Olympus Mons.

One last suggestion, keep your speed below 700 mph (AT THROTTLE
SETTING 1,2 AND 3) while dogfighting with the aliens. If you go
up to 1293 mph at full thrust "0" - you cannot do rapid turns and
high "G" maneavers, first you may black out since the g forces at that
speed are 5 times what they were at 250 mph. Also, your spacecraft
may breakup and expode in midspace and you will have to do a Crtl-E
then press the letter v and punch out over enemy terrain. Mind you,
the gravity on mars is just over one-half what they are on earth.
You may want to get used to the controls and go slow at first.

Your best bet is to cruise at the throttle settings of 2 to 4 and
leave the rest (7-0) for emergency acceleration to outrun aliens when
you are out of ammo. Your total strength is 1000 so you must use
some strategy as well as tactics.

To start the game:

1. Type HAMMER for VGA. DISREGARD IF YOU'VE STARTED THE GAME AND HAVE
			 ALREADY SEEN THE TITLE SCREEN.

Type HAMMER -s for S3 video cards for SVGA,
Type HAMMER -v for VESA compatible SVGA,
      or
Type HAMMER -a for ATI compatible SVGA.

If you don't know then type HAMMER -s -v -a for SVGA.

## Use the escape key to choose controls and sound. Your ##
## spacebar allows you to choose items and the enter key acts as ##
## a chooser and allows you to exit the escape key menu. You may ##
## want to select the keyboard option selection if you do not ##
## have a joystick. Use the 'down' cursor key to select from the ##
## remaining options on the menu. Ie: press enter once for ##
## controls and then press the down cursor key two times and press ##
## enter again to change the controls from joystick to keyboard. ##
## To change the sound settings, press escape, and press the ##
## 'down' cursor key three times and press enter. The sound menu ##
## will expand to the right. To turn the sound off, press enter ##
## or you can press the spacebar to uncheck the item thus turning ##
## off the engine sound. To turn off all sounds, press the 'down' ##
## cursor once and press enter or use the spacebar with the escape ##
## key. You may also select 'save settings' which saves the ##
## control, sound and simulator settings for future game play. ##

2. Take off and cruise at a heading 030 for approximately 20 miles.
You should site an Armored Carrier hovering near a mountaintop. You
will see it as a green dot on the HUD radar screen which lies near the
top middle of the cockpit. The FAC (Forward Air Control) from their
recon revealed that the first chig base is near that area on a heading
of 060 degrees.

3. Fly along the same tradjectory as the Armored Carrier in order to
find the first target, it is one of the alien motherships (060 degrees).
Be warned, their ship is heavily protected by both Suface to Space
Missiles (SSM's) and Anti-Spacecraft installations. Also, you can
expect the aliens fighter squadron to be scrambled on your approach
to all of the chig outposts.

4. From there, head 300 degrees to the dead volcano and look for
aliens hiding in the crater. You may have to do some serious
manuevers in order to fire on the alien's ship and still have time
to get some speed and get out of the crater. You may need to use
the R setting for the weapons and use the regular missiles if you run
out of the air to ground missiles (the AG setting for the weapons).
It so happens that the AG missiles work much better on the
motherships.

GOOD LUCK !!!!!

Glossary - Viking Takeoff..... a takeoff termed in the twentieth
century by U.S. Air Force pilots as one where an aircraft
assumes a vertical position and remains that way until
		achieving the desired altitude.

Instructions to do a Viking Takeoff in a RA-84 Hammerhead.

       1. Press the letter o on the keyboard if you would like an
	  external view.
       2. Press the zero key for maximum throttle (over 30000 lbs of
	  thrust in an engine).
       3. Allow the spacecraft to roll down the runway.
       4. Pull back on the stick (rotate) at 50 miles per hour since
the SA-43 is capable of any Short Takeoffs and Landings (STOL).
       5. Keep the spacecraft in a vertical climb until you get to 20,000
feet. (WITH THIS THRUST, IT WILL TAKE LESS TIME THAN YOU
	  EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE).
       6. Press the number one and then press the letter B for the space
brakes and slow down to around 300 mph while still in the
	  vertical position.
       7. Pull back on the stick until you see the horizon.
       8. Press the letter B and roll the aircraft over -- right side up.
       9. Press the number 6 and continue cruising in any direction.
