-------------------------
2. Installation
-------------------------
Languages:

CyberMage can be played in English, French or German. To select one of these languages, run
the install program, as described in the game documentation. A screen appears that lists:

      E)nglish F)rancais D)eutsch

To select a language press "E" (for English), "F" for French or "D" for German. You can then
continue with the game installation in the language you selected.

Note: You cannot change languages on the fly -- you must return to the install program if you
ever decide to play in a language other than your original selection.

Subtitles:

CyberMage will provide subtitles only if the No Sound option is chosen in the Install or
Setup program.

Supported Input Devices:

      Keyboard
      Mouse
      Joystick

CyberMage defaults to Keyboard. To use a mouse or joystick, go to the Options screen and
follow the instructions in the game manual for changing input device.

Hard Drive Install Sizes:

      Small: 10 Megs
      Medium: 20 Megs
      Large: 60 Megs
      Everything: 135 Megs

The more you install to your hard drive, the less you will have to wait for disk accesses
when the game loads new data (e.g., during scene changes or when loading speech files).

-------------------------
3. Video Mode
-------------------------
There are two video resolutions: VGA at 320x240 and SVGA at 640x480. CyberMage does not
allow "on-the-fly" resolution changes -- you must return to the install program if you ever
decide to change resolutions from that of your original selection.

VGA and SVGA savegames are compatible.

If you are having problems running in SVGA, your video card may require an SVGA driver to be
loaded before CyberMage is loaded. If that is the case, refer to your Video Card documentation
on how and what to load in order for your Video Card to run in SVGA.

If your Video Card does not come with a SVGA driver or you do not have one, you can run
UNIVBE.EXE which we have provided for you. It is located in the root directory of the CD-ROM.
REMEMBER: UNIVBE.EXE may or may not put your video card into SVGA mode.

To run UNIVBE.EXE go to the Cybermage game directory (C:\CM is the default), type UNIVBE and
press ENTER.

***DIAMOND VIPER VIDEO CARDS***
If you have a Diamond Viper video card you will need to run VPRMODE VESA before playing
CyberMage in SVGA mode.
********************************

***ATI MACH 32 VIDEO CARDS***
If you have an ATI MACH 32 video card you may need to run VVESA.COM
before playing CyberMage in SVGA mode.
********************************

NOTE: CyberMage REQUIRES 16 Megs of RAM in order to run in SVGA mode (or in VGA with hi-res
      character graphics).

------------------------
4. Sound Cards
------------------------
        Supported Digital Sound Cards:
                -Sound Blaster/Pro2/16/AWE32
                -Ensoniq Soundscape
                -ProAudio Spectrum 16/ProAudio Plus 16

        Supported MPU-401 General MIDI Cards:
                -Roland RAP-10
                -Roland SCC-1
                -Roland SCDB-7
                -Sound Blaster Waveblaster

Problems encountered with the intro/credits/endgame flics:

Q: I selected No Sound in the install program, but I still get sound and music in the Intro
       and Endgame.

A: CyberMage will automatically play the Intro and Endgame sound and music if it detects that
you have a supported sound card.

Q: I do not hear sound or music in the Intro.

A: To play sounds and music, you must have the following lines in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

       Set Sound=C:\<Sound Driver Directory>
       Set Blaster=A220 I5 D1

In the first line, "<Sound Driver Directory>" should be replaced with the name of the
directory in which your sound card drivers are located.

In the second line, "A220" should be replaced with the I/O address to which your sound
card is jumpered. "I5" and "D1" (the Sound Blaster defaults) should be replaced with your
actual IRQ and DMA settings. In other words, if your sound card's I/O address is jumpered
at 240, your IRQ is 7 and your DMA is 1, the line should read "Set Blaster=A240 I7 D1".)

Q: My Ensoniq SoundScape is not working in the Intro.

A: Make sure you have the SET SOUND and SET BLASTER lines in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. If
they are, make sure you have selected the proper sound card addresses in the CyberMage
       install program.

Q: I select Ensoniq SoundScape in the CyberMage install program. Sound works fine in the Intro
but it does not work in the Game.

A: If your Ensoniq is not working correctly in the Game but is working correctly in the Intro,
make sure the following things are happening:

       1. If your Ensoniq SoundScape is set up in Sound Blaster emulation mode, select
Sound Blaster (MONO) in the game's install program and make sure you have the SET BLASTER
and SET SOUND lines in your autoexec.bat file.

       2. If your Ensoniq SoundScape is set up in General Midi mode, make sure you are running the
latest Ensoniq SSINIT driver (dated no earlier than 05-23-95). You can download drivers
          from the Ensoniq FTP site.

Q: My General Midi card is not working in the Intro.

A: The Intro does not support General Midi cards. Only the Game supports Midi cards.

Q: Why doesn't the digital for my Roland RAP-10 work?

A: CyberMage does not support the digital capabilities of the Roland RAP-10 card.

*** NOTE: Non-Sound Blaster sound cards will not work in the Intro unless the SET BLASTER
and SET SOUND lines appear in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. ***

*** NOTE: AutoDetect only detects Digital Sound Cards not General Midi Sound Cards. ***

5. Win95 Support
------------------------

How to play CyberMage using a Shortcut in Windows95:

After normally installing CyberMage you can create a shortcut to run CyberMage.Click on
the START bar and choose Programs. From the programs menu, select WINDOWS EXPLORER.
Using Explorer, go into the CyberMage directory (normally C:\CM) and use the Mouse
to Right-Click on CM.BAT. When the small menu pops up, select CREATE SHORTCUT. After you
select this, Left-Click on the new Icon named SHORTCUT TO CM.BAT and drag it to the desktop.
Now you should be able to run CyberMage simply by Double-Clicking on the Shortcut to CM.BAT
Icon on your Desktop.

If you have trouble running CyberMage using the Shortcut, use the following steps to run
CyberMage in MS-DOS mode. Please be aware that if you run CyberMage in MS-DOS mode, you
will not be able to run any other programs at the same time.

First you must choose the correct options for the CyberMage shortcut to boot to DOS mode.
Right-Click on the Icon SHORTCUT TO CM.BAT and when the menu pops up, choose PROPERTIES.
A large menu should come up called SHORTCUT TO CM.BAT PROPERTIES. Select the Tab labeled
PROGRAM and then select the ADVANCED button. In the ADVANCED PROGRAM SETTINGS window, check
the box labeled MS-DOS MODE and then select the option SPECIFY A NEW MS-DOS CONFIGURATION.
You must now specify the drivers you wish to use for your mouse, soundcard, and CD-ROM.
The menu should provide two windows, one for your CONFIG.SYS settings and one for your
AUTOEXEC.BAT settings. If you are not sure on what lines to add to the CONFIG.SYS and
AUTOEXEC.BAT, use the directions in your documentation on How to make a Boot Disk.

You should now be able to Double-click on the Icon Shortcut to CM.BAT. A warning sign will
come up telling you THIS PROGRAM IS SET TO RUN IN MS-DOS MODE AND CANNOT RUN WHILE OTHER
PROGRAMS ARE RUNNING. ALL OTHER PROGRAMS WILL CLOSE IF YOU CHOOSE TO CONTINUE. DO YOU WANT
TO CONTINUE? Select Yes. Your computer will now reboot and run CyberMage.

------------------------
6. Common Problems
------------------------
Q: I played the CyberMage demo and want to use my saved games for the "Training" mission
but they don't seem to work.

A: The CyberMage demo was created before many final game features, enhancements and changes
were implemented. Because of this, saved games from the CyberMage demo are incompatible
   with the actual game.

Q: I installed the game in one resolution but I would like to use another.

A: You must reinstall the game from the CD to change resolutions. Saved games are NOT
overwritten when you reinstall. They will still be available and will now appear in
   the new resolution.

Q: Why does the collie hat on my Flight Stick Pro cause strange things to happen when I use it?

A: CyberMage does not support the collie hat on joysticks.

Q: My game locks up at a black screen during loadup.

A: You may be experiencing a sound card setting error with your IO address. Check the setting in
the Setup program in the game directory on your hard drive. First, try the Sound Blaster(MONO)
option. If that doesn't correct the problem, you may need to play without sound.

Q: I do not get sound in the game.

A: The install program will default to No Sound in the install. Be sure that you have changed this
to reflect the type of sound card you have and its settings.

Q: Sometimes when I use CTRL-BREAK to pause the game my system will lockup.

A: If you use CTRL-BREAD and then hit ESC for any reason, the game will lockup. Please use the
'P' key to pause your game.

Q: I have an 8 meg system and I don't have enough memory to play the game if I run Smartdrive.

A: If you have an 8 meg system you can only use a smartdrive of 256 or smaller.

Q: The game locks up at the Main Page Options Screen when I select any of the listed options
   such as TRAINING or NEW.

A: You may have selected an incorrect IRQ for your sound card. Please run the setup program and
   choose another IRQ.

Q: I have 2 sound cards, 1 General Midi card and 1 Digital sound card and the AutoDetect does not
correctly detect my digital sound card I/O, IRQ and DMA settings.

A: When you have the above combination you will have to manually input the correct settings of both
   Sound Cards.

------------------------
7. Error Messages
------------------------
Here is a list of error messages you may encounter while playing CyberMage and suggested solutions:

"COPYING C:\CM\<FILENAME> ... WRITE ERROR- PRESS KEY"
Problem: Not enough hard drive space.
Solution: Run the DOS program, CHKDSK, to see how much space you have available and
free up space, as necessary, to meet the minimum requirements listed above.

"CYBERMAGE: Not Enough DOS 640K Memory To Run (400K Req.)"
     Problem: Not enough Base/Conventional memory.
Solution: Free more base memory. We suggest that you create a boot disk. See the game
               documentation.

"CYBERMAGE: Not Enough XMS Memory To Run"
     Problem: Not enough free XMS.
Solution: This is most common on 8 meg machines -- you must have at least 6.9 MB of XMS memory
available to play CyberMage. Free more XMS memory.

"CYBERMAGE:(ERROR) OPEN D:\CMDEMO\PANEL11.DAT"
Problem: Not enough Files set in your CONFIG.SYS file.
Solution: Set files=40 in the CONFIG.SYS file.

"SOUND ERROR: UNABLE TO LOAD SAMPLE DRIVER"
Problem: An incorrect sound card or a non-supported sound card was chosen. Could also be
an IRQ conflict or IO addressing problem.
Solution: Choose No Sound in the SETUP program in the game directory on your hard drive
or verify the settings for your card and run the Setup program to choose the
               correct settings.

------------------------
8. Game Tips and Hints
------------------------

   1. Use your powers whenever possible to conserve valuable ammunition. Your power
automatically recharges on its own; your weapons do not...

   2. Purchase everything you think you will need before leaving the city for the DMZ.
Once you enter the DMZ you will not be able to return to the city.

   3. Learn the set function key designations for the important items in the inventory screen.
The F3-F4 combination and the F3-F5 combination are particularly important!

   4. If you find combat within the game difficult or otherwise frustrating, you can go to the
Options page and change the difficulty setting at any time, making your opponents easier
      to defeat.
