SECTION 1:
LOGBOOK OF COLONEL CONNOR

11/3/2029

SkyNet is gone ... One of my toughest officers, outfitted in the latest
A.C.E. battle armor, managed to set a fusion detonator in the core of the
SkyNet orbital platform, blowing the central processing unit into silicon
dust ... For the first time in years, I feel I can see an end to this war
against the Machines, but there is no time to celebrate ... One of Technician
Sterner's people hypothesized that destroying the central command would cause
every enemy unit to "turn off." I think he knew he was grasping at straws
even as he said it. SkyNet is like a cancer: every part must be cleansed
before we can rest ...

11/4/29

Ordered the commencement of Operation Scour, a systematic clean-up of all
Terminators, Dragons, Eradicators, and other offspring of SkyNet. Expectations
are running high that the leaderless enemy units will be "easy pickings," as
one young sergeant put it. If so, Operation Scour will only take a few
months. I hope he's right ... Tomorrow we take back L.A.

11/6/29

I received the final figures from yesterday's sorties: 32 Resistance troops
dead or MIA, 282 enemy units destroyed. That's almost 9:1, the best kill
ratio I've seen. It appears that some of the frontline assault constructs are
running inefficiently with SkyNet off- line. I saw several Eradicators
spinning in cyclical loops or getting enmeshed in loose electric lines and
rubble, unable to fire at us ... Not all news was good. Captain Antiarch,
one of our best, was severely injured while tracking a group of Terminators
through a bunker in Alpha quadrant when one of the units fired a plasma bolt
that phased through a wall ... Chief Medic DeLoach managed to save one of his
eyes ...

11/8/29

... Got back two hours ago from Phoenix where it was discovered that a new
type of phased plasma stream that can move through walls is not the only
guerrilla technology SkyNet had been saving ... There was a Sentinel
guntower in Theta quadrant believed to be off-line. Several recon troops were
investigating. I was with them. There was no sudden sound or light, but I
remember feeling the familiar pre-corona heat of a PPC electron stream rush
toward me, and the soldier ahead and to my right, Cpl. Becker-a good man-died
in a ball of fire. I might have assumed he had stepped on a proximity mine if
I hadn't felt that heat first, so I ordered the attack on the Sentinel tower.
It turns out it had been on-line all the time, capable of concentrating
super-heated bolts of some invisible, soundless energy, with more energy than
any PPC we've seen ... Sterner seems to think that the frequency of the
Phased Plasma Cannon must now be adjustable. She believes that is the only
explanation for the Sentinel and Terminator's new capabilities ... It seems
what you can't see can still kill you. Not good.

11/9/29

Major Altorrez commlinked from Anchorage to verify what Sergeant Major Herrick
reported: a new enemy A.I. construct has been discovered. The soldiers have
taken to calling it the Manta ... As far as can be determined, the Manta is
an air-based hunter- killer that combines the deadliest attributes of the
Dragon and Scorpion constructs ... Altorrez' and Herrick's report was relayed
into the TecCom network. Several other base commanders stated that their men
had seen similar enemy units in the past few days. What the hell is going on?
Why didn't we see this Manta while SkyNet was on-line? Is this some sort of
SkyNet "Plan B"?.. Antiarch came out of MedBay this morning. He's made a
spectacular recovery in the ReGen unit after just three days of DeLoach's
care. Antiarch, of course, has requested an immediate reassignment ... I wish
I could have forced him to wait and recuperate a few more days, but the truth
is we need him in the field.

11/13/29

Antiarch is en route to Washington, D.C. to head up HQ there. He's taking a
team of our best technicians and scientists for the various local research
bases and power plants. Altorrez agrees with me that D.C. is one of the most
important "frontier" areas - neutralizing the enemy units is essential for
the expansion of our operations. Merlin also agrees that Antiarch is the best
man for the job. I hope he is up to the task.

11/18/29

Technician Sterner informs me that we have reverse engineered some new
technology discovered in former SkyNet bases to improve the A.C.E. armor and
other Resistance weaponry ... She has had little success in deciphering the
recent reports of neoteric behavior in the assault units. We still don't know
how the constructs learned to adjust the frequency of their PPC's to avoid
our sensors during sniper attacks. We don't know where the Manta came from.
And we don't know why several base commanders have described recent enemy
battle tactics as too sophisticated for leaderless automatons. It's almost as
if there were another SkyNet out there ... Maybe not a central command, but
perhaps a mobile command. We've got to find it and kill it.

11/20/29

Received word about a seasoned veteran, Second Lieutenant Raker, killed in a
munitions factory in Detroit. He was outfitted in Level 2 A.C.E. armor. One of
his unit who managed to get away said Raker was destroying some
communications equipment, with a 100 watt PPC attached to an Autofire
neurolink. Something flew into the room, almost as fast as a Seeker ball but
2x larger, firing plasma streams that peeled off Raker's armor like it was
paper. Raker emptied his PPC at it, five full fusion cells of 100 watt plasma
as he was going down. The thing didn't even slow down ... Captain Antiarch
reports large numbers of enemy units in D.C., but so far little challenge.
Operation Scour appears to be a success there ... Still isolated
intelligence-probably not WIDECOM linked or else they would have been all over
us by now How long have we got to keep it from spreading?

11/25/29

More reports of run-ins with constructs like the thing that killed Raker.
We've lost two more A.C.E. armor troops ... Sterner's initial report states
that these units' plasma fire is not only beyond the 100 watt range but is
somehow reactive with the ShieldGen defensive neurolink in the A.C.E. armor.
I've ordered all ShieldGen units returned ... Can't afford to lose more
troops until we figure out a defense. Sterner also suggests that the Manta
and this new construct we've begun calling the Guardian were unseen before
because they were programmed to come on-line if SkyNet went off-line.

11/30/29

Operation Scour appears to be going well, but there have been too many
surprises ... If SkyNet really had a secondary defense plan, how is it being
put together and where? ..

12/3/29

...Antiarch reports an attempted siege on BlockOne, the Washington Resistance
headquarters, so cleverly coordinated he swore it looked like SkyNet itself
was there, evaluating our reactions.

12/8/29

More concentrated attacks on several of the Washington bases. Antiarch has
requested backup including A.C.E. troops. I think I know the soldier for the
job ... Sterner's Weapons ops better come through with those improvements

SECTION 2:
CHANGES TO TERMINATOR 2029

YOUR A.P.C. QUARTERS

Deep in its underground hangar in Theodore Roosevelt Island headquarters, the
Armored Personnel Carrier that brought you from Los Angeles to D.C. is your
resting quarters in between assignments. Although it looks different, the
cockpit of your A.P.C. has all the features of your quarters in Los Angeles:
Character Records, Character Creation, Quit to DOS, Mission Briefing, and the
Training Simulator, updated to the D.C. locale and to include the newly
discovered enemy units. The only difference is where these game functions are
located. Use your mouse or cursor keys to move around the area and
familiarize yourself with it.

YOUR DEFENSIVE NEUROLINKS

Due to time limitations, you were only able to bring two of your improved
defensive neurolinks: the Autodoc and the Autofire. Technician Sterner will
be sending shipments of additional neurolinks every few days until your
defensive arsenal is complete. Once a neurolink is selected, (barring any
damage from enemy fire) it remains on-line for your entire mission. This
means, if you choose to implant the Combat neurolink, the Autofire neurolink,
and the Thermolite, every shot from your 100 watt range Phased Plasma rifle
impacts at double damage, suffers only half the heat loss, and is fired
continuously! Obviously, very few targets can stand up to that ordnance, not
even the Guardians which generally are immune to any sort of plasma fire.

Your offensive neurolinks have also been improved. Technician Sterner will
send you higher loads of missiles and grenades as they are developed along
with the defensive neurolinks.

YOUR RANK

As a veteran of the SkyNet campaign, you have earned the rank of Lieutenant
Colonel, second only to Colonel John Connor himself. The Resistance will
continue to record your "kills" and success rate in a point system for the
length of your stay in Washington. To note, although you technically outrank
Captain Antiarch, Major Altorrez, and Technician Sterner, as experts in their
fields, their advice should be heeded and orders completed. (Keep in mind
Colonel Connor's favorite warning: "Don't get cocky, kid.")

INVENTORY CONTROLS

Several of the missions in "Terminator 2029: Operation Scour" assign more
items to inventory than can be listed on one screen. As in the original game,
you can scroll through your inventory items using your mouse to click the up
and down triangles to the left of your information display box. Clicking the
middle square will return you to the original information display menu.

LOSING OR ABORTING MISSIONS

The only way to move to the next mission in the game is to achieve all
objectives. If you fail one of the early missions, Colonel Connor or one of
his Los Angeles staff will inform you of the fact and send you back to
quarters. From there, you can look over enemy stats or run through the
training simulator before going back to the briefing room for a recapitulation
of the original briefing. Failing one of the later missions may be serious
enough to result in the termination of the D.C. Resistance.

In most of the early missions, you can abort at any time once and chose new
offensive and defensive neurolinks in the ordnance bay before re-entering the
battle field. Aborting twice, however, is interpreted as failure-which, as
stated above, is variable in its severity. Aborting some of the later
missions, even once, will result in failing the mission.

NEW INSTALL

Bethesda Softworks has created an installation program to help you install the
Operation Scour mission disk on your computer's hard drive with a minimum of
trouble. Before starting, please be sure you have at least 2.8 megabytes free
on your hard drive. [Note: This assumes you already have The Terminator 2029
loaded on your hard drive. If not, allow 15 megabytes for both the main
program and the mission disk.] Then follow the instructions below.

Install Disk 1 into floppy drive A (or B).
Type A: (or B: if using drive B)
	Press Enter key
	Type Install
	Press Enter key

You will be given a menu consisting of four options:
	Configure Game
	Make Boot Floppy
	Install Game
	Exit

Use the Up/Down arrow keys to highlight an option
Press the F1 key for a description of any highlighted option
Press Enter to select the desired option
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Note: When installing the mission disk, ensure that Operation Scour is placed
in the same directory as your original Terminator 2029 program.

RECONFIGURING KEYS

There is an additional item in the Character Creation screen, "Reset Keys to
Default." If you have reconfigured your keys accidentally or wish to restore
their original configuration, simply click on this choice with your mouse. An
acknowledgement will indicate, "Keys Reset to Default Configuration."

HINTS

Use the training simulator to hone your skills. The training simulator is the
safest place to experiment with different offensive/defensive weapons and
neurolink combinations.

If you enter an area that alerts enemy units, it is not a good idea to run
back the way you came.

Missiles can be quite effective underground, but even if you're locked onto a
target, the missile may brush against a wall and detonate. Enemy units tend
to use this characteristic to their advantage.

You normally receive access codes in military jargon (i.e. A=Alpha, I= India).
Sometimes, however, you may receive non-standard codes in the field or
discover them on your own. Write these codes down as they may not appear
elsewhere. You may also need to try a variation of one or more of the more
ambiguous letters and/or numbers when using such codes.

Several units, particularly the more advanced A.I. constructs, have been
reported to exhibit erratic behavior while awaiting instructions. This
phenomenon is most common in Eradicators. Take advantage of this situation
because they may cycle online suddenly.

Using sweep frequency PPCs, Terminator units have been reported capable of
firing through walls. Sentinel gunheads and guntowers may alternate between
conventional plasma blasts and phased x-rays which may be invisible even to
your HUD's advanced optics. If you find yourself taking damage from no
visible source, take cover, scan the area and engage in some guerrilla
warfare of your own.
