       1. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
       

        Slicks 'N' Slide is a simple car game for 1 - 4 players.
        The idea of the game is to drive vehicles around a track as
        fast as possible. The game works in every PC compatible
        computer but the faster it is, the smoother the vehicles move.

        This is a Shareware game so you can try it and distribute it
        freely but if it proved a worth of payment you should pay a cheap
        registration fee.



       1.1 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
       

          VGA/MCGA 256 colors
          Up to four players (included computer players)
          Mouse support in the main screen
          Joystick and LPT-controller support
          AdLib sounds
          MOD music and samples with SoundBlaster
          386DX processor recommended for four players
          About 510kB free conventional memory

       2. HOW TO PLAY SLICKS 'N' SLIDE
       

        Every essential facts should be explained in this file.
        If things don't clear up after reading you can also ask
        about them directly from me (use Internet, if possible).


       2.1 COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS
       

        You can use following parameters in Slicks 'N' Slide:

         SLICKS -?         Short instructions

                -p<path>   Sets path of the tracks

                -q         Don't play MOD music

                -l         Change language

                -a<x>      Change the port of the LPT-controllers to
                           LPT<x> (default LPT1)

                -m<Hz>     Sets freguency of the MOD music (4000-22000Hz)


                You can use also '/' in stead of '-'



       2.2 MAIN MENU
       

       2.2.1 KEYS
       

           F1                 Instructions about the keys and vehicles
           +,-                Inc/decrease number of the laps
           T/The middlest btn Show the Top Ten and the designer of
                              of the track
                                D   Delete the Top Ten
                                DEL Delete the track
           R                  Randomize order of selected tracks
           SPACE/Left button  (Un)select a track/change a setting
           ENTER/Right button Begin the race/change a setting
           ESC                Exit to DOS



       2.2.2 CHOICES
       

        Number of laps

        Select tracks randomly
          The game selects that number of tracks randomly.

        Select all

        Unselect all

        Randomize
          Randomizes the order of the selected tracks.

        Load a saved game
          Continues a previously saved game.

        Tracklist
          Load/save a list of selected tracks.

        Players
          Click on the player name to change them.
           Select 'COMPUTER' to choose a computer player.
          To add a new player, press a 'NEW' button or
           end of the list.
          Clicking on the vehicles to changes them.



       2.2.3 SETTINGS MENU
       

        Sounds: none, PC-speaker, Adlib, Soundblaster.
           SoundBlaster sounds will not work before next starting
            of the game.
           SoundBlaster settings will be taken from BLASTER environment
            variable. Default settings are: I7 D1 A220

            For example, if your card uses port 240,
                 interrupt 5 and DMA 1, type: SET BLASTER=A240 I5 D1.

        Points and money
           Winner gets 1st points, 2nd gets 2nd points etc.
           Players get also money: winner gets 1st sum of money per
            number of the selected tracks etc.
           The fastest driver gets extra points and money.

        Money in the start
           Players get that sum of money in the beginning of the race.

        Part shop
           Players can tune up their vehicles.
                 Engine: more speed
                 Tires: better traction and faster turns
                 Fuel: bigger fueltank
                 Armor: less damage from crash

        Price raising percent
           Prices will be raised by that percent after buying item.

        Fuel
           Vehicles consume fuel. They can be refuelled in the pit.

        Fueltank
           Amount of fuel in seconds.

        Bumps
           Vehicles bump with each other.

        Bumps after finishing
           Vehicles can bump with each other also after finishing.

        Lap times after finishing
           Players get lap times also after finishing.

        Damages
           Vehicles get damages. They can be repaired in the pit.

        Complete break up
           Vehicle can stop moving.

        Pixel animation
           Vehicles burn rubber etc.

        Computer player damages
           Computer player get that percent of damages.

        F1-styled finish
           When the winner has passed the goal, other players drive
            only their current lap to the finish.

        Show Top Ten
           Top Ten will be shown always after a race.

        Turns without speed
           Vehicles can turn without speed.

        Change of cars
           Vehicles can be changed between the tracks if the part
            shop is turned off.

        - part shop
           Vehicles can be changed even if the part shop is turned on.

        Palette shade
           Screens will be changed without shading.

        Date format
           Day will be shown before month or vice versa.

        Date separator
           Separator character can be '.' or '/'

        Change colors
           Every vehicle has two colors. Also the background color
            can be changed.



       2.3 RACE

              When quiting the current race (ESC or F10) only finished
               players get points or money.



       2.3.2 CHOICES
       

           Keys

              Select a player by vertical arrow keys
              Select control method by horizontal arrow keys
                 In the joystick mode choice the sensitivity and
                 the throttle method of the joystick
              Press enter to change control keys
              Default selection restores default values

            All key combinations don't work well in every keyboard.    
               If you have problems with them try other keys.

              Speed of the game in percents
              Times are in seconds only when the speed
               setting is 100%.

        SSHELP                    Keyboard tester
        SSHELP <track> <track2>   Joins top tens (don't use .SS-suffix)
        SSHELP <track>            Converts OLD track to the new format
                                 (don't use .SS-suffix)
        SSHELP -p <plr1> <plr2>   Joins player lists (SLICKS.PLR).
                                 If two player with a same name exists
                                 the newest one will be deleted.

         Example: SSHELP A:BRIDGE C:BRIDGE    Join top tens
                  SSHELP DESERT               Convert DESERT.SS
                  SSHELP *                    Convert every track (*.SS)
                  SSHELP -p SLICKS.PLR S.PLR  Joins S.PLR to SLICKS.PLR



       4. LANGUAGE FILES
       

           If you want new languages modify SLICKS.L02 and send it to
           me. I will add it to the next versions of the game.
           If possible, use Internet (I could easily ask new words
           if necessary).
