     Program: The Dungeon v8.0; description.

The Dungeon Version 8.0, distributed by EXEC-PC is an exciting, simple
to use adventure program. The Dungeon uses many of the PC function key
and cursor key combinations. The game is played by moving the player's
character through an computer-generated maze on the upper 23 rows of
any standard color monitor. During the game you can fight monsters,
cast spells, and collect symbols which he encounters.

The Dungeon can store more than one player to disk. Each time a new
player starts he selects his own statistics; strength, intelligence,
wisdom, dexterity, constitution, charisma; which are used by the game
for calculating while fighting monsters, falling in traps, pits, etc.
The game can store up to 1,000 players each with up to 32,767 dungeon
levels. The player can move to lower, increasingly harder levels as he
     plays.  The  player's character  also has six  inventory   statistics;
weapon, shield, armor, cloak, boots, helmet; each of which are also
used to calculate monster's hits on the player, etc. These statistics
can all be increased up to a maximum of 99 while the game develops.

While moving in the maze the player encounters monsters (represented
by a # pound sign). The player must overcome these monsters during
playing by attempting to occupy their dungeon square by moving towards
them. Your player can lose if the monster is more powerful as the
monster fights back. As each monster is defeated the player gains
coins, gold, gems, chests, and more.

During playing the dungeon the player can collect many treasure items
     represented by symbols: (~, $, , *, &, |, @, %, "); scroll, gold,
chest, gems, coins, wand, potion, staff, ring; and then the player is
prompted to pick up the treasure or ignore the treasure. The item can
increase the player's gold hoard, be added to his inventory, etc.

During playing the dungeon the player can land on dungeon squares
     represented by symbols: (^, o, !, ?, >, <) which each result in
different activities. The trap or pit can return damage to the player,
the teleporter or temple can move the player to another square, or
dungeon level, or reward the player with gold or return damage. The
stairs up or down can bring the player to a lower level or up to a
higher level until he escapes the dungeon.

One goal to playing is your player's statistics. You can gain more and
higher power inventory by playing, gain gold to buy statistics, to buy
inventory, and for increasing your player's level. Your player also
must gain experience by conquering monsters. When your player's gold
and experience increase high enough then your player gains a level.
Then the player statistics like spells points and hit points increase
with each new level your player attains.

While playing the dungeon your player can use spells to conquer and
move in the game. The status line displays the four spell points you
can use with the four sets of spell function keys, F1 to F10 for spell
     level 1, Control-F1 to Control-F10 for spell level 2, Shift-F1 to
Shift-F10 for spell level 3, and Alt-F1 to Alt-F10 for spell level 4.
Each time one spell is used then your player's total points remaining
for the total spell level is decreased. When the spell points for a
spell level 1 to 4 are zero then you have used up that spell level.
The spell points are increased after your player gains level himself.

The additional functions keys available to your player for game play
include using spells from collected inventory items, and the Globe of
Power function keys: (Alt-A to Alt-J); These ten key combinations use
one charge from one of the ten wands your player has collected in the
dungeon. When the wand is used then a spell is cast from the wand.
(Alt-Q to Alt-Z); These ten keys use one charge from a potion. The
potion casts the spell it has stored. You must first collect some
potions in the dungeon. (Control-A to Control-J); These ten keys use
one staff. When the staff uses a charge from the spell it has stored
then the spell is cast. (Control-Q to Control-Z); These ten key
combinations use one of the ten rings your player has collected in the
dungeon. Then the ring uses one spell charge and casts the spell.
(Alt-0 to Alt-9); These ten keys release the Globe of Power spells.
This globe is found in a chest. There is only one globe per level and
your player can only have one globe. Each key casts one spell of the
ten powers of the globe. Once each spell is used then the globe is
depleted and you must find another one.

The remaining specific keys allow the player to use certain functions:
Control-Right (keypad gray plus '+'); The info key displayss current
monster hits and experience, average, maximum, and minimum statistics
for monsters at the current dungeon level, attack formulas, and your
     total armor and weapon plus. Control-PageDown (keypad grey minus "-");
The chant key displays the spell chants your player has remembered.
Your player can read chants found on scrolls hidden in the dungeon.
Control-Home (keypad "\"); The trade key allows your player to trade
gold for statistics. Your remaining gold is displayed along with the
average cost per statistic. You can select the statistic to purchase
with the number keys 1-6. Control-End (cursor keypad "="); The level
key lets you change the dungeon level to another level. Your number of
stored levels is shown. You can select any level to continue play in.
Control-PageUp (cursor keypad "'"); The use key uses a charge from a
wand, potion, staff, or ring. You must first collect some of these
items in the dungeon. You can then enter the letter of the item to use
the item. Control-Left (cursor keypad "/"); The inventory key displays
all the wands, potions, staffs, and rings your player has collected.
They are used with the Use command or with the key combinations Alt-
and Control- listed above. Shift-Tab (cursor keypad ";"); The buy key
allows your player to buy inventory. Your remaining gold is displayed
along with the average cost per inventory item. You can select the
item to purchase with the number keys 1-6.
