This file includes installation and registration information
for BJTABLES version 1.7. Also covered are how/why to register
your copy, a discussion of other BJTABLE products, and release
notes. See the file named REGISTER.TXT for more information on
  registering.

==> INSTALLING AND USING BJTABLES <=================================

This note describes how to install and start BJTABLES software. The
full capabilities of BJTABLES are extensive, but you can get up and
running quickly. Then, as you learn the system, read the manual to
find out about all the additional features.

There are 17 files which come with this release. Not all of these
files are necessary for BJTABLES to run. The files which are needed
  are:

  ---FILES YOU NEED TO RUN---
      BJTABLES.EXE -- the executable file.
OPTIONS.DAT -- an ASCII file containing program
       options.
COUNT.DAT -- an ASCII file containing instructions
       for configuring the card-counting method.
BJSTRAT.1 -- the strategy table for player 1.
This is the same as the "basic strategy".
BJSTRAT.2 -- the strategy table for player 2 (user).
This is the same as the "basic strategy".
BJSTRAT.3 -- the strategy table for player 3.
This is the same as the "basic strategy".
TMSRB.FON -- font file for the program.

    For Hercules users:
MSHERC.COM -- driver file for Hercules monochrome graphics
users. Execute this file before running BJTABLES if you have
       a Hercules monochrome graphics card.

  ---ADDITIONAL STRATEGY AND COUNT FILES---
      COUNT.SMP -- a particular card-counting method (the
"simple point count" of reference 2 in the manual).
      COUNT.MNC -- another card-counting method (the
"main-count" system described in reference 1 of the manual).
BASICSTR.DAT -- the standard "basic strategy" strategy
       encoded in tabular form.
MAINCNT.DAT -- the "main count" strategy encoded in
tabular form. This strategy is discussed in reference
       1 of the manual.
MAIN_2.DAT -- the "main count" strategy for a certain
set of rules (doubling down after splitting is
allowed). Again, see reference 1 in the manual.

  ---DOCUMENTATION---
      MANUAL.TXT -- the program manual.
README.TXT -- general information and release notes.
REGISTER.TXT -- form for registering BJTABLES.

  ---OTHER FILES USED BY BJTABLES---
HEROES.DAT -- A file of names (or nick-names) of those
who have supported BJTABLES and want their names mentioned
in the opening credits. Thanks guys!
$BJT2$.$$$ -- this file is a backup of the OPTIONS.DAT
file. It is created in case there is a problem updating
       the OPTIONS.DAT file.
$BJT$.$$$ -- a temporary file created by BJTABLES.

The program initially works with Reno rules and is a 4-deck game.
The stragegy is the well-known "basic strategy" popularized by
  E. O. Thorpe and others. This strategy is good if you don't count
cards. Other strategy files are included in this release, and of
course you can make your own and customize the program in many ways.
  See the manual for details.

To run the program, copy the files listed above to a local directory.
(It is convenient to make a directory called BJTABLES for the files).
Then, type BJTABLES to run the program.

The instructions screen will provide the basic commands needed to
run the program. The program works based on keyboard input (bets
are entered using numbers and blackjack plays are entered using
mnemonic commands such as "h" for hit and "st" for stick). To play
the game, choose a play speed, and accept the defaults (pause and
beep modes). Then, you can play blackjack just like at the casino.

The default setting is the supervisor or "beep" mode, where incorrect
plays are not allowed and the program will "beep" at the player until
  the correct play is entered.

Use the F1 key for help. If you think the program is not responding
properly, hit the ENTER key to clear out partial or incorrect
  entries and try again.

  GOOD LUCK!!!

  ===> REGISTERING BJTABLES <=========================================
If you register your copy of BJTABLES with Annandale Software, you
  get the following benefits:

==> IF YOU CHOOSE TO, you can get on the "named player" list.
Your name (or any nick name you choose) will appear from
time-to-time in the opening credits of the program.
In effect, we want to acknowledge your support for
registering the software with us. The updated names
list will be sent to other program registrants and will be
uploaded periodically to the large BBS's. Indicate the
name to be listed (if any) in the registration form.

    ==> A printed manual.

    ==> Additional strategy tables.

    ==> Phone support.

==> Good Luck Charm included in the box!

    You'll get a FREE, fully-functioning version of BJTABLES 2.0,
available only to those who register. Version 2.0 has the
    following features:

==> Single player option for easier counting.

==> Choice of table order (first, second or third player).

==> Performance statistics to track how well you're doing.

The cost of registration is $19.95.

  ===> WAIT!  THERE'S MORE! <=========================================

For an additional $15.00, we will send you a pre-release copy of
BjLab, the advanced simulation laboratory for blackjack. This
goes beyond ordinary simulations because it supports Practiplay.
Practiplay allows you to simulate occasional deviations from the
"standard" strategy and betting rules. This can help you simulate
the effects of cheating, mistakes, and forms of play designed to
hide the fact you are counting.

  BjLab introduces:

    Practiplay--for simulating real-life blackjack play.

BJDL--The "BlackJack Description Language" which allows you
to specify Practiplay conditions AND detailed betting strategies.

Interrupted Play--Pick up where you left off. Start and restart
the simulation without losing your past results.

Sorry, you can't get the pre-release version without registering
BJTABLES v1.7. The standard version will be released in 1995.

See the file REGISTER.TXT to register.
