I had heard, though she proved to be a great contrast in looks to
her brother. He was neutral tinted, with light hair and grey eyes,
while she was darker than any brunette whom I have seen in England -
slim, elegant & tall. She had a proud, finely cut face, so regular
that it might have seemed impassive were it not for the sensitive
mouth & beautiful, dark, eager eyes.
Before I could introduce myself, she came quickly toward me with
blazing eyes & a low eager voice warned me to return at once to London.
She said no more, as her brother then returned but changes the subject
swiftly to an orchid growing nearby.  She told him that she had already
introduced herself to Sir Henry, by whom she meant myself. When she
realized her mistake, she tried to cover her confusion and said we had
been talking at cross-purposes. She invited me to Merripit house
