the street, was now proceeding slowly onward again. I was aware of a bushy
black beard & a pair of piercing eyes turned upon us through the side window
of the cab. Instantly, the trapdoor at the top flew up, something was screamed
to the driver and the cab flew madly off down Regent Street.
Finding no empty cab in sight, Holmes dashed off in wild pursuit, but
the cab was soon out of sight, and Holmes was left gasping at his bad
luck & bad management
I asked who the man was, but Holmes only knew that Baskerville must have
been closely shadowed by someone ever since he was in town, and Holmes
had been on the look out for loiterers from the window of Baker Street.
It had been a clever move to use a cab, to escape notice easily, but in
so doing, I suggested, we could catch him through the cabmen, if only
we had his number.
