Wednesday 26th September

Holmes evidently much excited by Mortimer's story. After our
discussion last night he played his violin until very late -
one reason why I shall not be displeased to move out of Baker
Street at last. My companion suffered one of his sleepless nights
and was up early this morning, ready for the interview at ten o'clock
with the Doctor and Baskerville. Mrs. Hudson caught by surprise
and put out of countenance by the rush to prepare breakfast in time.
The storm-clouds darkened on her face when she contemplated the
foul atmosphere created in our room by Holmes' pipe last evening.
Holmes did not help by lecturing her on his philosophy.
"I find a concentrated atmosphere helps a concentration of thought."
he told her. "I have not pushed it to the length of getting into a
box to think, but that is the logical outcome of my convictions."
