Dino Beach

Game Summary:
This game consists of five question-and-answer activities that
flow into one another and advance in difficulty as the game
progresses. Your child is currently in the first phase.

This game is intended for those children on the brink of fully
comprehending letter-sound relationships and who are almost
ready to form words. If your child has played the Phonics Toy
successfully or has had some prereading instruction in school, he
or she will be very comfortable with Dino Beach.

Let's Play:
This initial phase involves picture-to-picture matching. Mick asks
your child to "Find the picture that sound like man [or van, or cat,
etc.]." The correct selection, one of the images in the meteors,
corresponds both to the spoken word and to the image that
appears on the surfboard. Notice that Mick the Helpbot hovers
and points above the surfboard picture. When this activity begins
your child has two pictures to choose from; as he or she plays
successfully the number of choices increases to three and, finally,
to four.

To make a selection, single-click the guitar tip on the picture
chosen. When your child selects correctly, Jimi or Elvis the
Dinosaur congratulates them and a red lightning bolt appears at
the bottom of the screen. These lightning bolts will accumulate
until six of them are lined up, at which time they will disappear
and make room for the next set. Before they disappear, they will
light up in order as the individual sound effect for each bolt
repeats itself.

If your child makes an incorrect selection, Mick will repeat the
word being asked for and the word itself will appear in a yellow
box. Mick plays the word slowly before the screen returns and
your child can try again.

NOTE:
If your child would like to stop playing at any point of
the game, single-click on the spaceship icon or access the
Parents' and Teachers' Guide and exit the game from there.
When your child returns to play again and returns to Dino
Beach, the game will begin with the word groupings last
completed.

The next phase of the game will begin when your child has
demonstrated mastery of picture-to-picture matching. At some
point you will notice that the nature of the choices has changed to
include letters. This means that phase two has begun.
