Please note that the file sizes listed first are those reported by DOS, and
may be smaller than the amount of hard disk space actually required for
installation. This will occur if you have a hard drive which is very large
or uses file compression. For hard disks using file compression, multiply the
file sizes listed above by the expected compression ratio for your hard drive
to obtain an approximate file size for the different games. Otherwise, the
actual space required depends on the cluster size of your hard disk, and can
be as large as the maximum listed.

Windows 95 Compatibility
------------------------

The Lost Adventures supports the autoplay capabilities of Microsoft Windows
95. Installation should automatically be initiated when you insert the CD-ROM
into the drive and close the door. If The Lost Adventures is not installed
on your computer, you will be prompted to specify various installation
options. If you start your machine with The Lost Adventures inside your
CD-ROM drive, you will need to double click on your CD-ROM icon.

<Alt-Tab>, <Alt-Esc>, and screen saver options are suspended while you play
The Lost Adventures under Windows 95.

Electronic mail and network messaging may interfere with the game's normal
operations, so you should disable them.

Windows 3.1 Compatibility
-------------------------

The Lost Adventures is not designed to be installed or run from Microsoft
Windows 3.1. Install and run the game from DOS.

On-line Game Manual, Hintbook, and Readme File
----------------------------------------------

Each game in The Lost Adventures includes files which may be of
assistance to you as you play the game. These files are:

MANUAL.TXT - the text of the game's manual,
README.TXT - the readme file for the game, and
HINTBOOK.TXT - the hintbook to the game (for Gateway and Gateway 2, only)

These files are copied to your computer's hard drive, and are located in the
game directory where the game is installed.

On-line Demos
-------------

The Lost Adventures CD includes demos for four Legend games:
Superhero League of Hoboken Death Gate
  Mission Critical Shannara.

These demos can be run directly from the CD or they can be copied to your
hard disk if your CD-ROM is too slow. To run from the CD, type one of the
following at the DOS prompt from the root directory of the CD:
  HOBOKEN
  DGATE
  MISSION
  SHANNARA

To run the demo from your hard drive, copy all the files in the HOBOKEN,
DGATE, MISSION, or SHANNARA directory to your hard drive, and type DEMO.
All the demos except Superhero League of Hoboken require SVGA in order to
run properly.

Known Bugs in The Lost Adventures games
---------------------------------------

As difficult as it is to believe, there are one or two, itsy-bitsy, little
tiny bugs lurking in a few of The Lost Adventures games. Of course, you'll
never run into them, but if you did, this is what you would find:

ALL GAMES UNDER WINDOWS 95

Windows 95 sometimes plays pranks on you and tells you that it doesn't like
our games. It tells you to run in DOS to play those icky old DOS games. We
recommend that you tell Windows 95 that you are going to anyway, and click
on the game in the taskbar to continue playing.

SPELLCASTING 101: SORCERERS GET ALL THE GIRLS

In the olden days, before the computer industry perfected programming, games
used to have things called "bugs" (hidden features that add excitement and
unpredictability to the program). SPELLCASTING 101 has one of these. No,
really. It's about Gretchen. She's got a major hang-up about being intimate,
and it's infectious. So unless you want a major hang-up yourself, don't try
to put the moves on her. And please keep your arms and legs in the game at
all times.

SPELLCASTING 201: THE SORCERER'S APPLIANCE

Steve Meretzky, that wild man, gave Eve a post-hypnotic suggestion: every time
she hears the word "beer," she's supposed to freeze. Unfortunately, it works
too well; not only does she freeze, but so does everything else. Try not to
take Eve to pubs or taverns. If somehow you end up there, don't say "beer" in
her presence. You'll only make things tougher for everyone.

In order to protect the rights of paying students, nobody will be admitted to
classes for which they are not scheduled. Should you attend an unscheduled
class, we will be forced to suspend you (and your computer's operations) until
you reboot. Call it tough love.

SPELLCASTING 301: SPRING BREAK

If you try to put water into either the TUREEN or the POT, the game will hang.
This is NOT a bug, but a natural result of the painstaking hand-coding process
that went into creating the game, and only adds to its unique charm and value.

You may notice that if you LOOK at the Tureen or the Pot, they're empty, but
if you EXAMINE them, they're full of water. This is a paradox we've
purposefully set up that we will explain in SPELLCASTING 901, due out in the
fall of 2032.

If you try to take the girls to the party, the game will hang. To get them to
the party, give them the studfinder and they'll show up on their own. This bug
was not in the original game; we included it specifically in YOUR copy of the
game ONLY. Why? 'Cuz we're irrepressible pranksters. But don't return it to
the store; we put an equally obnoxious bug in everyone elses' copies as well.

GATEWAY

In order to get the missing course code for Aleph, you need to make sure you
are in the Lecture Room T52 prior to the beginning of the Green Badge Briefing
at 9:00 a.m. DON'T BE LATE. Nobody will be admitted after the doors close, and
nobody will be permitted to leave during the final five minutes. And please...
don't reveal the game's ending to ANYbody.
