ELFLAND HINTS: The Troll Caves - Volume Two

Cheat Mode
----------
        Enter cheat mode by simultaneously holding down the E and Z keys.
Keep holding down the keys until you hear someone say, "Cheat Mode." The 
"Life" heading at the bottom of the screen should change to say "Cheat." 
In cheat mode, you can press the following keys:
        W - See the winning screen
        A - Toggles between having armor and having no armor
        1 - Teleports to Village2
        2 - Teleports to Country3
        3 - Teleports to Sky
        4 - Teleports to Mortimer
        5 - Teleports to Bird
        6 - Teleports to BallDoor
        7 - Teleports to Mouth
        8 - Teleports to Bats
        9 - Teleports to RedDoor
        0 - Teleports to Chief
                ( see map below )
In cheat mode, you can never lose. Your life bar will always stay positive.
Also, you have an unlimited amount of ammunition of any type of weapon.
But, if you enter cheat mode, you CANNOT be entered on the high score list
and you CANNOT save your game.

General Hints
-------------
1.      Make sure you are comfortable with jumping, running jumps,
attacking while jumping, dropping from ledges, and other kinds of basic 
movement. If not, practice makes perfect.
2.      Running away from creatures is a great way to save up life for
harder encounters.
3.      Use the different kinds of berries effectively. Use flash berries
against snakes, rats, and purple elf eaters. Use mega berries (the giant
red berries) against either purple elf eaters or creatures diagonally 
away from you. Use seek berries against flying creatures such as birds and
bats. Use green berries against storm clouds or trolls because green berries
stun any creature on the first hit. Also, make sure you are comfortable with 
changing weapons while playing in Elfland.

How to Win
----------
        Follow these instructions in order and you will win volume two
of Elfland! You start in Village2.

Village2
--------
1.      Talk to the kid elf.
2.      Avoid all birds. You have no ammunition at this point.
3.      Travel to the upper right corner of the level. To get there,
get on the branches of the second tree from the right of the level. Then,
jump on the nearest cloud and continue jumping on adjacent clouds. You
will soon meet the cloud who was in the first Elfland adventure. He will
give you extra life and give you hints on how to win.
4.      Exit to Country3.

Country3
--------
1.      There are several openings in the hills of this level to allow
you to drop into the dark caverns beneath the hills. But, there is only
one way out of the caverns. The second hole from the left in the hills 
is the only exit.
2.      Enter the hills and collect as many gems as you can. Be careful of
all the creatures in the hills!
3.      Enter Mortimer.

Mortimer
--------
1.      Always climb the clouds to find extra items.
2.      Travel to Mortimer's house.
3.      Enter the house and exit the house without talking to Mortimer.
4.      Enter Bird.

Bird
----
1.      Climb the clouds on the left side of the level. Pick up all
the items. The green berries stun any creature (except really huge
creatures) with one hit. Use them against creatures such as purple
elf eaters, storm clouds, or trolls who need more than one flash berry
hit to be stunned.
2.      Go to the right edge of the screen. Climb the cliffs staying towards
the right edge of the screen. You will meet a human. Pay him 30 gems
and learn the secret of the gigantic bird.
3.      Climb the cliffs to the left and then up and then right and
then back up again. You should not see the gigantic bird at this point.
4.      Once you are at the top left portion of the cliffs, go right and
then lure the gigantic bird towards you. Keep luring the bird until you
are very far away from where it orginally flew. Then, run from the bird
so that you cannot see it anymore. 
5.      Work your way to the right side of the cliffs again. This time,
climb up the right side of the cliffs all the way to the bird nest. Take
the egg.
6.      Exit to Mortimer.

Mortimer
--------
1.      Enter Mortimer's house. Climb up to the last level of the house and
bump into Mortimer.
2.      Take the armor once Mortimer starts eating the bird's egg.
3.      Exit to Country3.

Country3
--------
1.      Climb the clouds either on the left or right side of the level.
2.      Jump from the highest cloud into Sky.

Sky
---
1.      Storm clouds are very hard to stun. Try using green berries
against storm clouds.
2.      Talk to the cloud in the lower left portion of the level.
3.      Travel to the upper right corner of the level. Get the empty bottle.
4.      Talk to the cloud in the middle of the level.
5.      Go to the crying cloud in the upper left portion of the level.
Catch as many tears as you can. Check to see if the bottle is no longer
empty by looking at your inventory. 
6.      Once the bottle is full of rain, drop down to Country3.

Country3
--------
1.      Exit to Village2.

Village2
--------
1.      Go to the Grand Elf's tree (a sign should point the way). Climb
the branches to the top of the tree. There should be a cloud in sight
that is darker than the rest of the clouds. Touch that cloud and the
sun will show. To get extra bonus points, push the dark cloud off of the
level by using the nearby clouds as jumping bases.
2.      Drop down to the ground. Enter the BallDoor by pressing down at
the troll hole.

BallDoor
--------
1.      Trolls are very hard to stun. Try throwing green berries at them
if possible. Be ready for gnats to fly out of the trolls' hair. Gnats
are extremely fast but only require one flash berry hit. Watch out for
trolls! They are tough!
2.      Pass through the force field to your left. Your armor will be
destroyed, but you will survive.
3.      Travel down the winding passage. Be sure to pick up a yellow
ball when you see it.
4.      Put the yellow ball in the brown circle at the lower level of
the winding passage.
5.      Enter Mouth.

Mouth
-----
1.      Go all the way to the left of the level. Climb up the left side
of the level.
2.      Talk to the mouth and eyes. Answer with 'POTATO' to unlock the
force field (notice that POTATO is written on the level in which you are
walking). Get the green ball.
3.      Exit to BallDoor.

BallDoor
--------
1.      Put the green ball in the green circle.
2.      Enter Bats.

Bats
----
1.      Climb up the left side of the level. Then go right and down.
2.      Save your game at the 'Save your game NOW' sign.
3.      Do not hit any of the blue force fields around the sleeping bats.
If you do, they awake and will most probably overcome you. Avoid the
fields until you retrieve the blue ball. Retrace your steps to exit
to BallDoor.

BallDoor
--------
1.      Put the blue ball in the blue circle. The magical seal should open.
2.      Enter RedDoor.

RedDoor
-------
1.      Go left and then down into an area full of rotating treads.
The treads will push you in either direction, so be careful of sudden
movements when you jump on a new tread.
2.      Make your way down to the last tread and jump into a safe cavern
to the right. In the cavern is the red ball. Get it and retrace your
steps back to the beginning of the level.
3.      Go right and follow the winding passageway until you see a red
circle.
4.      Put the red ball into the red circle. The magical seal will open.
5.      Enter Chief.

Chief
-----
1.      Watch out for the Troll Chieftain. He sprays out two types of
missiles: ones that follow you and ones that don't. The ones that follow
you phase out after awhile so that if you stay on the left side of the
level, then you can avoid them entirely. Also, watch out for the gnats
that fly from the Chieftain's hair!
2.      Notice that part of the wall by the Chieftain has a blue plate
by it. Shoot the plate. The plate should move to a different spot. Keep
on shooting the plate everytime it moves to a new location. Bright blue
plates must be hit twice and white plates must be hit three times before
they move.
3.      Once you destroy all the plates, the force field and the Troll
Chieftain will disapppear. Go up and follow the winding passage.
4.      You will enter a cavern filled with water. Jump across a couple
of treads to the troll statue. When you touch the statue, you will place
Gorgimer's crystal in it.
5.      Retrace your steps to the imprisoned elves. Talk to the Grand Elf.
You have won! Relax and enjoy the ending screen! You certainly deserve it.
