ELFLAND HINTS: Gorgimer's Castle - Volume One

Cheat Mode
----------
        Enter cheat mode by simultaneously holding down the E and Z keys.
Keep holding down the keys until you hear someone say, "Cheat Mode." The 
"Life" heading at the bottom of the screen should change to say "Cheat." 
In cheat mode, you can press the following keys:
        A - Toggles between having armor and having no armor
        1 - Teleports to Village
        2 - Teleports to Country
        3 - Teleports to Country2
        4 - Teleports to Gorgimer
        5 - Teleports to Rope
        6 - Teleports to Board
        7 - Teleports to Armor
        8 - Teleports to Inventor
        9 - Teleports to Balloon
        0 - Teleports to Pet
                ( see map below )
In cheat mode, you can never lose. Your life bar will always stay positive.
Also, you have an unlimited amount of ammunition of any type of weapon.
But, if you enter cheat mode, you CANNOT be entered on the high score list
and you CANNOT save your game.

General Hints
-------------
1.      Make sure you are comfortable with jumping, running jumps,
attacking while jumping, dropping from ledges, and other kinds of basic 
movement. If not, practice makes perfect.
2.      Running away from creatures is a great way to save up life for
harder encounters.
3.      Use the different kinds of berries effectively. Use flash berries
against snakes, rats, and purple elf eaters. Use mega berries (the giant
red berries) against either purple elf eaters or creatures diagonally 
away from you. Use seek berries against flying creatures such as birds and
bats. Use bomb berries ONLY for the peculiar wall in the Board level (see
map below). Also, make sure you are comfortable with changing weapons while 
playing in Elfland.

How to Win
----------
        Follow these instructions in order and you will win volume one
of Elfland! You start in the Village.

Village
-------
1.      Read the Beginner's Guide to Elfland from the main menu. 
2.      Go to the leftern most tree in the village. Jump on its branches.
Jump to the tree to the right of it. Jump to the tree to the right of this
tree. Jump on the cloud above this third tree. Jump to the cloud to the
right of this cloud. Make a big jump to the tree to the right. This tree
is the tallest in the elf village. Collect all the berries in the tree while
fighting off birds by throwing berries at them. 
3.      Go to the tree to the right of the tallest tree in the village.
The Grand Elf lives in this tree. Jump to the top of the tree's branches
and talk to the Grand Elf. He will let you leave the elf village by opening
the left gate. Make sure to touch the sun because it will heal all your
wounds.
4.      Before leaving the village, go to the tree to the right of the
Grand Elf's tree. Climb to the tree's top and then jump on to the nearest
cloud. Continue jumping clouds until you talk to the cloudman. He will give
you extra life.

Country
-------
1.      Never let a bird get directly above you. They are very hard to  
stun when this happens.
2.      The little gray coily creatures are springs. Try to time your
attacks with the springs' jumps. Try to avoid attacking springs on a
hillside because they are very difficult to stun in this situation.
3.      Climb the branches of the tree in the center of the level. Jump
on a cloud to the right. Continue jumping on the clouds. Once you finish
jumping, it appears that there are no more clouds to jump on. Take a leap
of faith and walk right. You should land on a cloud. Take another leap
of faith and then continue jumping up the clouds until you get a seeker
berry. Seeker berries, when thrown, go in the direction of the nearest
creature and are very helpful when creatures are directly above you.
4.      There is an underground cave in this level. Enter the cave. Watch
out for the purple elf eaters. When they see you, they run at you as fast
as they can! They also take two hits to stun and they do twice as much
damage to you as normal creatures. Get all the items in the cave. To get
the item hanging over the pit, do a jump towards it, get it, and then
reverse your jump direction in mid air. You should be able to avoid falling
in the pit this way.
5.      Go left to the river. Jump on the turtle to cross the river.
6.      Climb up the clouds at the left portion of the level. Keep climbing
until you find a grape and gems. The grape will heal you completely.
Watch out for the birds!
7.      Go left to Country2.

Country2
--------
1.      Climb the clouds above the first tree. You should find some mega
berries. Mega berries, when thrown, produce four flash berries at a time.
2.      Enter the cave and pick up as many gems as you can. This part of
the adventure is very tricky, so be careful!
3.      Go left to the river. Climb to the top of the tree by the river. 
Jump over the river.
4.      Climb the clouds at the left portion of the level. Pick up the gems.

Gorgimer
--------
1.      Climb the clouds and get some items.
2.      Talk to the human and give him gems. Elves have no use for gems! 
If you do not have enough gems, then go back and get more gems or give the 
human some flash berries if you think you have enough ammunition.
3.      Enter the castle. Make your way up to Gorgimer. He will teleport you
to Rope.

Rope
----
1.      Notice the purple door to your left.
2.      Go up the nearest ladder. Make your way all the way to the top of
the level. There should be water here. Cross the first portion of the water.
Nearby is a squid and by the squid is a piece of rope. Dive in the water and
retrieve the rope. Quickly get on the squid and jump out of the water to
safety.
3.      Go right. There should be a long series of ladders. Go all the way
down the ladders and then go a little left. Go up a long ladder and get
the white key.
4.      Take the white key and unlock the door to the left of the water
where you found the rope. Talk to the brown mouse, get another white key, 
and get the purple key.
5.      Take the white key and go back to the purple door. Go to the right
and unlock the other white door. Talk to the human. Get another white key.
6.      Go left and unlock the purple door. Enter Inventor.

Inventor
--------
1.      Go left until you see a huge ladder. Climb up the ladder. Get as
many items as you wish to the left and right but climb to the top. Go
to the left and unlock the white door. Get the bomb berries and another
purple key.
2.      Climb down the ladder until you reach the bottom. Go to the left
and talk to the inventor. Go to the left, unlock the purple door, and 
enter Balloon.

Balloon
-------
1.      Explore the area before you. You should find five different colored
hemispheres. Touch the hemispheres in the order shown by the flashing
C.E. signs at the bottom of the level. The magic door should open. Climb up
to the top of the level. Make sure you jump into the crevice with the
deflated left balloon or you will have to climb back up to the same spot
again. Get the deflated balloon. Go to the right and jump over the water.
Fall down a chute and then exit back to Inventor and go back to Rope.

Rope
----
1.      Go to the right portion of this level. Enter Board.

Board
-----
1.      Climb up the ladder. Make two very long jumps. Make sure you
do a running jump and are right on the edge of the walls before you jump
the very longest chasms on this level. 
2.      Go to the upper right corner of this level. Pick up the board. 
3.      Fall down the steps. Avoid falling into the water by falling on 
the left wall and pressing left. 
4.      Enter the maze. Stun the nearest snake. Go down the passage that 
the snake was guarding. Get the cheese. 
5.      Go to the right. Climb the long ladder. Follow the passage until 
you touch a red glowing object. It will open up part of the maze. Go back 
to the start of the maze. Climb the short ladder and follow this passage. 
Go to the lower part of the level and touch the blue glowing object. It 
will open the maze so that you can get out again. 
6.      Go to the peculiar wall. Blow it up with bomb berries. Enter Armor. 

Armor
-----
1.      Pick up all the berries you can find.            
2.      Watch out for platforms that change direction suddenly. If a new
platform comes into view, always watch it for a couple of seconds to 
predict its behavior before jumping on it.
3.      Jump from platform to platform until you are near the force field.
4.      Blow up the force field with flash berries and mega berries.
5.      Jump to the armor from the nearest platform.
6.      Exit back to Board and then to Rope.

Rope
----
1.      Go back to the brown mouse. Give it the cheese. 
2.      Exit to Inventor.

Inventor
--------
1.      Go to the inventor. He will make the balloon out of the board,
rope, and balloon.
2.      Get on the balloon. Wait until it stops. Jump off the balloon onto
the ladder. Save your game.
3.      Enter Pet.

Pet
---
1.      You must do these actions very quickly! Go to the right. Pick up
the grapes. Jump to a wall. Jump on the pet's main eye. You should see
a blue flash. Jump to the left platform in the room. Fire mega berries 
at the main eye until it is destroyed. Then fire mega berries at the body 
until it is destroyed.
2.      Enter Gorgimer.

Gorgimer
--------
1.      Give Gorgimer the armor. He will give you the crystal that will help
thwart the trolls. You will be teleported outside the castle.
2.      Go to Country2 and then enter Country.

Country
-------
1.      Approach the elf gates. An elf kid should be waiting there. Talk
to the elf kid. You have won!
