*QUICK* "Readme" file for version 1.40
(execute the program HOW2PLAY.EXE to view full documentation)

I thought version 1.35 would be the last, but apparently the new, super-fast
Pentium machines are wreaking havoc on Dr. Rudy's old speed calibration
algorithm. One person wrote to me saying that she couldn't play Dr. Rudy on
her new computer because it runs too fast! So I felt compelled to make a new
version to fix this problem so that the game will run fine on these new
computers. The result: Dr. Rudy version 1.40!

HOWEVER, just moments before releasing this version I discovered a small
problem: on an *old*, slower machine running Windows 3.01, this version of
Dr. Rudy runs too slow. Perhaps DOS emulation in the old version of Windows
was not very good -- it DOES work fine if you exit Windows and run Dr. Rudy
from DOS. (It also works fine from Windows 95.) So keep this in mind,
especially if you are thinking about upgrading from a previous version of
Dr. Rudy. If you have an old, slower computer, and you like to run Dr. Rudy
from Windows 3.01, you might want to keep the *old* version. If you have a
new, super-fast computer, then this new version 1.40 is probably best.

Ugggh... it's difficult to keep up with technology and try to be compatible
with everything, but, oh well! I hope this minor issue does not keep you
from enjoying the game. Those of you with fast Pentium machines should
hopefully find the game better than ever, with no speed calibration needed
and new options for choosing a game speed on the game selection screen.
Have fun!

Game requirements:
   DOS operating system (DOS emulation under Windows or OS/2 is fine);
*Color* monitor (VGA, CGA or text mode)

Files in this release:
   DR.EXE, HOW2PLAY.EXE, DR_ICONS.EXE, README.TXT, FILE_ID.DIZ. The files
DR_RUDY.DAT and DR_RUDY.SAV are *not* distributed but instead are
automatically created by the DR.EXE program.

To start the game:
Run the "DR.EXE" program. (In DOS, if you are currently "in" the
directory where the game files are, you can type "DR" to start --
without the quote marks, of course!)

To play the game (quick guide for those of you who never read instructions):
At the title screen, just WAIT. In a few moments, a demonstration game
will begin that teaches you how to play! When you are ready to play,
press ENTER once to get to the game selection screen, then press ENTER
again. Use the arrow keys to guide pills as they fall. Use the SPACE BAR
to pause the game; press ESC to quit.

To read the FULL instructions:
Run the "HOW2PLAY.EXE" program. Use the up and down arrow keys to scroll
through a section; use the left and right arrow keys to change sections.
Press F1 to discover more keys that can be used. Press ESC to quit.

Distribution policy:
This game can be distributed freely as long as the program and data files
are not modified and no fee is charged. Yes, the game is FREE! But, if
you are very kind to donate $10, I will send you a code which unlocks the
two-player game! See the manual in HOW2PLAY.EXE for more details.
