ABOUT THE DARK SEED PATCH
--------------------------

1) The system BIOS in computer systems containing the Phoenix BIOS v1.0 or 1.1
does not follow the IBM guidelines for interrupt handling. As a result, many
computer systems with this BIOS conflict with DARK SEED at a very low level,
returning an error message such as "NOT READY ERROR WRITING DRIVE x." This
occurs due to DARK SEED attempting to trap various keyboard interrupts and
the Phoenix BIOS's non-standard configuration. Cyberdreams, the developers
of DARK SEED, identified the conflict and patched the 2 main executables in
DARK SEED to avoid this conflict.

SYSTEMS WITH THIS CONFLICT (as reported by users)
Gateway 2000 '386 & '486 (both SX and DX chips)
Leading Technologies '386 & '486 (both SX and DX chips)
Packard Bell '386 & '486 (both SX and DX chips)

2) DARK SEED is not compatible with Microsoft's SMARTDRIVE device driver v4.0.
This driver is shipped with Microsoft Windows(tm) v3.1. SMARTDRIVE is now
disabled when you start up DARK SEED. When you exit your DARK SEED game
session, SMARTDRIVE is re-enabled.
