             MICKEY'S CROSSWORD PUZZLE MAKER

Welcome to Mickey's Crossword Puzzle Maker's README file.
Here you will find tips and information on how to take
advantage of your computer system's capabilities to make
using the MS-DOS version even easier.

COPYING THE PROGRAM ONTO FLOPPY DISKS

Before you do anything else, write-protect your original
Mickey's Crossword Puzzle Maker Disk(s). 5.25 inch disk
users can do this by covering the notch on the side of the
disk. 3.5 inch disk users can do this by moving the black
tab on the upper right corner of the disk so you can see
through the window.

NOTE: If your floppy drive is something other than drive A,
substitute that drive letter for drive letter A in the
instructions below.

One Drive Systems:

1. At the A> prompt, type DISKCOPY A: A: and press Enter.
2. You're asked to insert a source disk; insert Mickey's
Crossword Puzzle Program Disk in drive A. Press Enter
to start copying. You'll have to swap disks during the
copying process -- you're prompted when to insert your
source disk (the original disk) and when to insert your
    destination disk (the backup copy).
3. When the disk copying is complete, you're asked if you
    want to make another copy.
5.25 inch disk users: Type Y and press Enter.
Repeat step 2 with the Picture Clue Disk.
Label the first disk you copied the Program
Disk and the second one the Picture Clue
             Disk.
3.5 inch disk users: Type N and press Enter.
4. Do not write-protect the copies of your disk.

Two Drive Systems:

1. At the A> prompt, type DISKCOPY A: B: and press Enter.
2. You're asked to insert a source disk in drive A and the
destination disk in drive B. Insert Mickey's Crossword
Puzzle Program Disk in drive A and the blank disk in
drive B. Press enter to start copying. (Note: these
    instructions only work if both drives are the same size;
if they aren't, you'll have to use the instructions for
    a one drive system.)

USING A MOUSE

The file MOUSE.SYS must be on your system disk when you
start your computer. The line device=mouse.sys must also be
in the CONFIG.SYS file. If you have any problems getting
your mouse to work, please refer to your mouse's user manual
for information.

This program was tested with Microsoft-compatible mice; we
cannot guarantee compatibility with other mouse drivers.

CREATING SAVED PUZZLE DISKS

Floppy disk users can save any puzzle onto a separate floppy
disk. Select Create a Saved Puzzle Disk from the Disk
Options menu and then insert a disk in drive A or B. Then
select Save to save that puzzle onto the disk.

You must use the correct density disk in your disk drive.
For example, if you have a high density disk drive, you must
use high density floppy disks. The chart below shows you
the disk you must use in your drive in order for the Create
A Saved Puzzle Disk option to work. If you don't use the
correct disk, you're told that the disk can't be used and to
insert another.

                Drive Density Disk Density

5.25 inch 360K Double Density
                1.2Meg High Density

3.5 inch 720K Double Density
                1.44Meg High Density

PRINTING PUZZLES

When you start Mickey's Crossword Puzzle Maker, the program
determines the number of parallel and serial ports available
on your hardware system. If no ports are available, you
can't print puzzles. If more than one port is available,
you can select a port during printer setup. LPT1 is the
default if there's one or more parallel port; otherwise,
COM1 is the default.
