If you have a good amount of memory, you can REALLY get this game to
perform. I use the following setup to give me maximum performance.

1) Create a RAMdisk of fairly good size. (Consult your DOS manual if
you don't know how to use VDISK or other RAMdisk software.)
I find that a 256K RAMdisk is good, but 320k would be even better.
We will assume for this discussion that this will be drive D: on your
system (adjust the following if it is not.)

2) Have the distribution files ready on a separate disk (or section of
your hard drive). We will use A: for the example.

3) Create the following two batch files to use with this system:

SETUP.BAT -

   copy a:wm3.exe d:
   copy a:wm3.cfg d:
   copy a:warmage3.dat d:

PLAY.BAT -

   copy a:*.wm3 d:
   d:
   wm3
   copy d:*.wm3 a:

4) To use this system, I run SETUP once after creating my RAMdisk, and then
set the DOS prompt to the A: drive. Then I just type PLAY to play the
game. When I leave the game, all of the appropriate files are copied
back to floppy for permanent storage.

5) I SERIOUSLY advise the use of this system to ANYONE playing this game
who has 640K of memory or more. This system increases game performance
by up to ten times. If you are worried about losing data due to a
possible power outage, simply exit the game periodically and re-enter.
    Your progress will be saved.
