poe-lo-KAN-thus               POLOCANTHUS

     This relative of the Ankylosaurus lived in Europe during the early
Cretaceous Period.  It carried a very advanced form of armor.  Sitting atop
its neck and shoulders were two rows of strong vertical spikes.  Another flat
shield of bone protected its pelvis.  On its tail were two rows of
triangular plates similar to the Stegosaurus's.

