As you enter they get up and invite you (ratherstrongly) to join them. They won't let you leave until you do. The largest tells you to order a drink. As you eat the peanuts, you notice they are very salty and tend to make you verythirsty. You must have a drink. As if possessed, you wander about until you find yourself in front of a bar. Your muscles seem to strain against you.You cannot move! As you slowly regain control of your body, the men tell you the room has had a spell of protection cast upon it. The men grab your weapon and take it away from you, then chant together 'now drink!'. The thieves overwelm you after several minutes of intense fighting. They get you on the ground and with gleaming sword points repeatedly bite your flesh with needle-like jabs. Pain swells from your stomach, legs and arms. The horse thieves leave you in the stench of the corral, blood flowing frommany wounds. You are too weak to move. The pain slowly gives way to the dark blanket of death beginning to enshroud you ... A movement from one of the vats catches your eye. A slime-covered creature is emerging from one of the experimental fluids. It is a fire-worm nearly 15 feetin length! It has mutated in the chemical mixture enlarging its form. The deadly secre- tions from its jaws have an effect of acid. The proportional range of its strike should be 10-12 feet! Several quick-acting men whisk you out of the establishment, dump you on a hardfloor (bruising your knee) and advise you to be a little more courteous next time you're out in public. An enchanter sitting in the marble bal- cony forces your spell inward, changing its weavings to a sinister form. The energy to turn it away drains you men- tally. The enchanter resumes his author-itarian gaze over the festivities. You've walked into the middle of a tre- mendous brawl! People are going beserk, hitting anyone near them with anything near them. Either they've run out of mead or there was something in it. Only a miracle could stop this nonsense. Close enough! The barfighters discon- tinue their misguided activity. Looking about, slightly bewildered, they realizeyou brought them back to reality from the altered mead they consumed. You are handed a reward as they head for home. Hokas is so overcome with joy that he places his hand upon your forehead and says 'the power of seeking will be with you as long i am near enough to amplify your mind. Say locate followed by the object of your desires.' Hokas then puts the amulet on a golden thread around his neck and scurries off muttering about an unfinished task. You feel a warm tingly sensation along your scalp. A wind swirls around you in tight cir- cles kicking up bits of debris that stings your exposed flesh. You squint your eyes to protect them. Suddenly, thewind quits and find yourself in dark wetness! A familiar smell abounds. So 'e sais roight, lemme 'ave 'er!... Another for my illegitimate son!Do you have a silver pie...What! Again! No, no,no - let me show...In heaven's name... Iam expectingall the time you do this, why, why great! Accept my lucy... 10 coppers? Outra...So then i sneaks up on 'im an' whack! Evantke! Let that be alessen...Stop. Don't. Stop. Don't stop. Don't stop! The charm of cruxis has not been broken...I definitely felt a pre- sence...Into the night... You just realize you've heard every con-versation happening in the tavern at once! What a mind searing sensation. Theringing slowly dissapates from your earsuntil...Silence. (Sigh) Talk about someone who can hold their liquor, you just drank a barrel of wine! You had better find a bathroom. Or a bed. Or some cheese. The lighting dims...A musical melody flows like a thin scent of honey. You feel your sense of proportion go awry, then realign; you realize your strength has increased and you feel as if no one can beat you in battle. Fire springs up from all around! Heat blasts away at your flesh, your belong- ings blister your hands. The lashing flames lower and then cease; your clothes smolder while carbon and ash hang on to your face and hair. The ugly features of your body melt to a smoothness and beauty rarely seen in these parts. Your innerself seems to glow outward and you feel a need to help the needy. A fog arises quickly, a metallic blue steed rides out of a midnight chill to stop before you! Snorting and pawing, he is angered at this summons by a mere human with little magical abilities! Hiseyes burn into your soul... Ice rains down from the ceiling! You tryto get to the nearest exit, but the coldrocks knock you to the floor; pounding down upon you until you lay covered in ablanket of ice chunks. Consciousness escapes you...You freeze to death. You suddenly realize you've been staringat your hands for quite some time now. The summoned horse gone, certain areas of memory have failed...Those piercing eyes...You can't remember the finer points of weaponry any longer. The door dilates soundlessly into the recesses of the wall. A red and yellow glow eases out of the opening and a tingling sensation creeps along your being. Your senses seem to dull and standing becomes difficult without taking severalsteps. With blurred vision, you see a large, pink object move into the room. You shake your head rapidly and try to focus your eyes. You feel queasy. Your head is spinning and your eyes begin to ache. That stuff tasted like tar after a dust storm! You feel prickly sensations and hair starts growing in thick thatches all over your body! The ugly features of your body melt to a smoothness and beauty rarely seen in these parts. Your innerself seems to glow outward and you feel a need to help the needy. Your skin suddenly gets cold! You find movement increasingly becomes difficult until you fall on the floor. After several convulsions, you can slowly get up but your agility does not seem to be too good. The bubbles tickle your nose and the smooth, thick liquid easily slides down your throat like sweetened goat's milk. You find your mind working at an abnor- mally fast pace and think of several im-provements to your fighting stance. As the liquid cascades past your lips, you close your eyes and enjoy the sweet, fruity taste. After several moments, your stomach gives you fits (you knew the liquid was unstable). However, you seem to be able to move faster. Etchings into the vault door read zena vault company, triconton, no. 276533-D2.The combination lock is one which you recognize, a zvc#7. All you need is the three-number combination, each number being two digits. You loosen enough boards to make a smallopening in the barrel. The boards you get are wet with wine and stain your hands a light blood-red. Someone may think you have been battling if they see those stains. The air in the barrel is used. You slip beneath the wine. It fills your lungs, the sting of alcohol barely noticeable as you become unconscious. You die the way you always talked about while sit- ting with the boys at the main hall. As you reach out to touch the smooth surface of the glass, your hand glides through the mirror - feeling nothing! The reflection is rippling from where your hand is no longer visible. Retract-ing your hand smooths the reflection. The piano player mutters, 'my life hangsby a thread; the hands of time glitter like knives ... Drinking, drinking by the case - yes! It's an elephant ...'. The prince smiles and says, 'i have beenlooking for this for 3 weeks! To thank you for your kindness, here is a key to the tavern so that you may come and go as you please.' King radaar scowls at you and says, 'youare not fit to be called an adventurer. Shame upon you and your guild. Already you know of your fate!' He stalks off down the path and yells behind, 'finish him!' The guards close upon you quickly seem- ing to all thrust their swords at once. Every muscle locks and pain swells through your body as each steel tendril is forced through and then pulled free. They leave your limp form lifeless. King radaar takes the bottle of scotch from you, slaps you on the shoulder and says, 'well done! You deserve a great reward for this service you have per- formed for me.' With that, he hands you 2,500 gold pieces. You later go to the coronation (at the king's request) and partake of spirits, roasted boar and song before taking to the road back to the main hall. Still feeling merry, you see the hall just down the hill. The mad piano player gets a far away look in his eyes and says, 'i want to waste my substance in whiskey sours and chocolate eclairs.' He then returns to reality and begins mumbling again. YOU LATER GO TO THE CORONATION (AT THE KING'S REQUEST) AND PARTAKE OF SPIRITS, ROASTED BOAR AND SONG BEFORE TAKING TO THE ROAD BACK TO THE MAIN HALL.
