                         ACES OF THE DEEP

                    Version 1.0 Release Notes

Thank you for purchasing Aces of the Deep (AOD). While we have made
effort to provide you with complete documentation, some last minute
additions and changes did not make it into the manual.

I. UNDOCUMENTED FEATURES

   Status Line

The status line can be toggle on/off via the options menu
(<ctrl>+o) or directly with <ctrl>+i. The status line displays
some important information across the top of the screen
      including:

Course - current course in compass degrees.
Speed - current speed in knots.
Depth - current depth in meters.
DUK - Depth under keel in meters.
         Time compression factor
Requested time compression factor - You may request a time
compression factor of up to 4096x. Depending on system and
simulation requirements, your actual time compression may
            be less than requested.

   Calm Ocean

The realistic wave action coupled with the rocking motion tends
to make some people sea sick. The "Calm Ocean" toggle on the
options menu allows you to reduce the rocking effect.

   Sound Volume

The volume for sound effects and music can be adjusted
independently. <Ctrl>+[ lowers sound effect volume. <Ctrl>+]
raises sound effect volume. <Alt>+[ lowers music volume.
<Alt>+] raises music volume. This feature is available while at
      sea only.

   Command Line '-s' Switch

Starting AOD with the command "aod -s" will not install the sound
or music drivers. This will save approximately 200K of run time
memory and may be useful on systems with only 4Mb of RAM that
      are experiencing memory problems.

   Blow Tanks

<Alt>+b is the key equivalent of the voice tube option to "Blow All
      Tanks".

      Autosave

AOD automatically saves your current game every 10 minutes to slot
number 20 in your save game menu. Autosave is only enable in
career mode during a war patrol.

II. INCOMPATIBILITIES

Aces of the Deep (AOD) runs in 32 bit protected mode and may suffer
from incompatibilities with older versions of some memory managers.
We have had particular problems with QEMM 6.02. If you
experience problems running the simulation try the following
   suggestions:

      a) Make a boot disk. This will default to no memory manager. AOD
will still take full advantage of your computer's memory.

      b) Try another memory manager (eg. EMM386.SYS included with DOS).

      c) Try running with music turned off (<ctrl>+m toggles music
      on/off).

III. MISCELLANEOUS

   Disk Caching

Performance improvements may be obtained by using a disk caching
utility such as SMARTDRV. Note that SMARTDRV does not require a
      memory manager; HIMEM.SYS suffices.

   Gravis Ultra Sound

While we have made every effort to support as many sound cards as
possible, the Gravis Ultra Sound is not supported directly. To run
with sounds you must configure your card for Sound Blaster
      emulation.

   German Naval Grid Chart

AOD contains an authentic reproduction of the World War II German
Naval grid chart for the North Atlantic. You will need to refer to
this chart to locate your assigned patrol quadrant.

Deck Gun and AA Gun Accuracy

Deck gun and AA gun accuracy will be impaired under time
compression. The greater the time compression, the less accurate
      your fire will be.
