     VALIDATE.COM is a program distributed with MythMaster: A Vagabond's
Adventure to check the game program for file corruption. To make this
check, before starting the game type VALIDATE MM1.EXE after the prompt >
then hit enter. The VALIDATE.COM program will return some values you may
want to write down. These values should be equal to the values you will
see displayed at the end of the setup routine. If these values are not
equal, then you should check the program for viruses. See section 10)
CAUTIONS TO THE SHAREWARE BUYER for more information on file corruption.

MM1.EXE has a setup routine which should check your hardware and allow
you the option to choose the keyboard or a joystick to move the main
character in the game. Just type MM1 after the prompt > in the directory
containing all the game files and follow the instruction to run the setup
routine. After running the setup routine once after installation, you can
bypass the setup routine by pressing the enter key right after typing MM1
to start the game.

4444444444444444444444444 HOW TO PLAY THE GAME 4444444444444444444444444

a) Setting the scene:
This is the first great tale of the MythMaster, a nickname given
to an adventuresome young man seeking fame and fortune as a
troubleshooting vagabond from the kingdom of Ethra. Anton Schlepp
came from humble beginnings. His parents were farmers who worked
hard their whole lives to have a comfortable home and enough to eat.

When growing up, Anton had heard amazing tales of power and
magic that could reach beyond his own world into the cosmos. But,
from an early age, Anton showed a strong inclination for being a
world class klutz. At the age of eighteen, his parents finally had
to turn him out of the house when he accidentally burned down the
     barn.

Anton was thunderstruck. He set out with only a knapsack and as
many provisions as he could carry, but he was determined to change
his luck. He was a hopeful dreamer, bumbling through life as he
always had until upon entering the kingdom of Cafray, he happened
upon a man in a very great hurry with a remarkable story...

     Go on an adventure...

This game lets you become the stories central character and
control everything he does to discover the object of his quest and to
     fulfill his destiny.

b) Start by typing MM1 and following the setup instructions to check
hardware and choose a joystick if you wish. If you do not have a
joystick, choose the keyboard. (The keyboard is the default control
     device.)

c) The joystick can move Anton wherever you wish: left, right, up, down,
diagonally, and to a stop at center. If your joystick does not
respond to your satisfaction, you may want to use the keyboard
keypad instead. (Start the game over, choosing the keyboard rather
than the joystick in the setup routine. Changing from the keyboard to
the joystick and back again will not affect the games you have saved.)
If Anton won't move, hit enter a couple times.

d) When using the keyboard keypad, you may use home, arrow up, pgup,
arrow right, pgdn, arrow down, end, and arrow left. To stop his
motion at any point just hit again the last direction key used (i.e.
if he is moving diagonally down-left, then hitting the end key will
stop his movement). If Anton won't move, hit enter a couple times or
     a direction key.

e) A ? is the prompt for you to enter commands. Type in commands, i.e,
LOOK, LOOK AROUND, TALK, GET THE HAMMER, and then hit enter. The
first thing to do when entering a room is to LOOK or LOOK AROUND. You
should LOOK AT everything you can in the room and GET objects at
every opportunity. Hit return to clear the response to your command
and get the prompt back or enter your next command.

f) This game understands the following verbs:
     break enter hug pick up
     catch examine jump pull
     chop exit kill push
     climb fill kiss read
     close follow knock sleep
     crawl get leave speak
     dive give lock take
     drink go look talk
     drop help move unlock
     eat hit open use
                                                  wade
g) It is very helpful to make a map of the territory you cover. This
     makes getting around much quicker.

h) The function keys:
F1 = HELP SCREEN (This function gives you a quick display of function
          keys during regular game play.)

F2 = REPEAT LAST COMMAND (This function allows you to repeat the
last command you typed on the keyboard.)

F3 = SAVE GAME (This function key allows you to save all the
parameters associated with the progress you have made in your
game play. You will want to use this feature when you're about
to try something dangerous or before quitting play to take a
break. It is possible to save a total of 12 games.)

F4 = RESTORE GAME (You may use this function key to restore a saved
game when you restart your game, during game play when you've
come to an untimely death or whenever you wish to return to a
particular point in the game where you want to start over.)

F5 OR TAB = INVENTORY (Either of these two keys gives you a list of
the objects you are presently carrying.)

F6 = PAUSE (This function key will stop all game action until you
          press any other key.)

F7 = SPEED ADJUSTMENT (Particularly effective with faster machines,
this function key allows the adventurer a choice of three speeds
          of travel.)

F8 = RESTART GAME (This function key will reset the game parameters so
that you can start over. It does not change any of the games you
may have already saved. After restarting the game, you could
still restore any one of your saved games.)

F9 = SOUND (The sound in this game is limited to a beep which tells
you that you may hit enter to get the input prompt following a
reply to one of your commands. Always read carefully the
replies, to get some clues about your quest. If there is a WAIT!
located at the end of a response, do not hit the return.)

F10 = QUIT (Leave the game and return to DOS. Remember to save your
          game if necessary.)

i) This game has a possible 206 points but not all are necessary to win
the game. The big challenge is to get all of the possible points,
     so, good luck!

5555555555555555555555555 NOTES TO THE PLAYER 5555555555555555555555555

Every attempt has been made to eliminate possible problems. If, by
chance, you should discover a bug and the program does something
obviously unintended, then reboot DOS or turn off your machine. When you
restart the game, you probably will not encounter the same difficulty
unless you create the same conditions leading to the same error. This game
should not be run from inside any other program, i.e. WINDOWS.
