PARIS, FRANCE
Have you ever heard the word "anachronism?" It means something that doesn't seem to belong to the time it is found in. That is what some people think I.M. Pei's spidery modern glass pyramid looks like beside the old buildings of the Louvre. What do you think?
Although beautiful in its own right, many Parisians objected to this modern pyramid being situated in the center of the ancient complex of buildings known as the Louvre, Europe's premier art museum.
Before the pyramid was constructed, it was quite difficult to tour the museum conveniently. Pei's pyramid was chosen as the design which would best integrate the various departments and divisions of the museum.
Perhaps you'd like to step inside the Louvre itself now?
