In this close-up picture of one door panel of Ghiberti's famous Baptistry doors, you can see the New Testament story of how Peter tried to walk on the water.
In the passage illustrated here, Jesus has given Peter permission to walk on the water, so Peter got out of the boat and began walking toward Jesus.
But then he noticed the wind and the waves and his faith began to waver. And as he wavered, he began to sink and cried out to Jesus to save him.
Just after this scene, Jesus pulls Peter from the water and they both return to the boat.
