KITADEL is by the author of the Cuckoo's Nest adventure published in BIG
BLUE DISK #14. It was with great dismay that we recently learned that Mr.
Danvers was hit by a truck and killed, outside his home on the south side of
Shreveport, only a few days after he had visited with us to hand in this
program. Donald Danvers was one of our most talented submitters, and it is a
great loss that he will no longer be gracing our pages with his well-crafted
adventures. The BIG BLUE DISK staff extends its condolences to the Danvers
family, and we present this final program of his as a tribute to his memory.

KITADEL, or Cat-Citadel, is an all-text adventure game that combines the
exploration of a strange old castle with a very distinct feline motif.

When the program starts, a title screen will be printed, after which you are
asked for your name and offered instructions. The moves consist simply of the
six possible directions (N, S, E, W, U, D) and options of I (for inventory) and
Q (for quit). If a game is saved (an option you get on quitting), the move R
can be entered to restore the saved position. Objects are picked up
automatically, just by entering the proper locations.

The player soon finds that the objects of interest are various kinds of cat
food, as well as brass keys. It turns out that 5 "nice" brass keys are required
to get through a certain crucial door, and 10 kinds of cat food are needed to be
admitted to the royal presence of Morris the cat. Only after meeting him can you
begin the search for the really vital can of cat food (Nine Lives). This search
is rather short and is facilitated by the opening of a few secret passageways.

After winning (or quitting), the player is asked if he wishes to play again.
If so, the game is re-initiated. If not, the program exits to the SYSTEM.
