Installation Instructions

MLF2 must be installed to a hard drive with at least 3MB of free disk space.
MLF2 also requires 560kb of free base RAM to run. The installation program
will automatically check your RAM and warn you if there is not enough memory.
If during installation a RAM memory shortage message appears, refer to the
Troubleshooting section for help. To install MLF2 put disk #1 in the A:
(or B:) drive and type: A: install [Enter] or B: install [Enter]). After
installation is complete, will be returned to a DOS prompt in the subdirectory
defined in the installation (example: c:\ MLF2>). The game is run by typing:
    CD\MLF2 [Enter]
    MLF2 [Enter]

Troubleshooting

The game requires 560,000 available bytes of base RAM to operate properly. To
find the amount of free base RAM available on your machine, use the CHKDSK or
MEM functions provided by DOS. If running CHKDSK, the number you are lookino
for is titled BYTES FREE. If nunning the MEM program, the number is called
LARGEST EXECUTABLE PROGRAM SIZE. If BYTES FREE and/or LARGEST EXECUTABLE
PROGRAM SIZE is greater than 560,000 and you still have a problem, there is
probably a program loaded as a device in the machine's config.sys or
autoexec.bat file that is causing a memory conflict with the game. Some known
incompatible files are smartdrv.sys and qemm386. If either of these are in
your machine's config.sys or autoexec.bat files, it is best to make a "boot
disk" with the following config.sys file on it. To create a boot disk, place a
blank disk in drive A: and type: Format A:/S [Return]. To create a config.sys
file using the "copy con" command type: COPY CON A: CONFIG.SYS [Return]. Type
in the file contents with no spaces, and press enter at the end of each line.
The config.sys file should contain the following lines:

    FILES = 20
    BUFFERS = 20

Also include these two lines if using DOS 5.0 or higher.

    DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
    DOS=HIGH

After typing the last line and pressing [Enter] hold down the <CTRL> key and
press the letter Z. Release the <CTRL> key and press [Enter]. A messaue 1
file(s) copied will appear. Then, reboot your computer leaving the newly
created boot disk in the A:.

Playing the Game

An asterisk (*) next to a player's name on the box score or squad boxes
indicates an injury. When an injury occurs, the computer will make a suitable
substitution for a player-coached team. The injury will be announced and the
set squads screen will come up. If the substitution made by the computer is
not to your liking, you may change the player yourself. See select lineup on
page 6 of the manual. There is no graphic menu for the kickoff, just a small red or blue
box titled "Kickoff." The three different kickoff options are: <1 > Normal,
<2> On-side, or <3> Squib. To play an exhibition game teams may be selected
from both league (.LEA) and season (.FB2) files. At the end of the game there
will be the option to compile statistics for a team that is from a league
file. Selecting to compile stats wlil alter the league standings and compiled
stats for players active in the game.

League Play

After quick playing a week's games, the schedule screen will have all the
games for that week in gray (already played). From this screen you must exit
and return to the main menu. Upon selecting the same league for league play,
the league standings and a recap of last week's games will appear. Press <ESC>
top continue on to the schedule screen. The next week with unplayed games will
be shown. Select an individual game to play by pressing the letter to the left
of the game, or quick play the week or season. If you are using a six division
league with at least 6 teams per conference, post season play is available
after the 16 week season has been completed. A six division league with less
than 6 teams per conference will not schedule the post season games properly.
Selecting this league in league play after the schedule has been played
completely will show the wildcard games scheduled for week 17. The three
division winners in each conference are automatically in the playoffs. The
three teams with the best records in the conference are the wildcard teams.
The divisional winner with the worst record (3rd div.) will play the wildcard
team with the best record (1st wild). The other two wilcard teams (2nd wild,
3rd wild) will play each other. The semifinals are held in week 18. The first
game is the best divisional winner (1st div.) at the winner of the best
wildcard/worst divisional game (1st wild vs. 3rd Div.) The second semifinal
game is the winner of the second/third wildcard game at the second best
divisional winner. The conference championship games are held in week 19.
There is one game Per conference between the winners of the semifinals. Week
20 is the Superbowl game between the two conference winner.
Note: The final standings reflect the result of post season games. If you wish
to keep the regular season standings, print or save them to disk in ASCII from
League Standings(Reports). Statistics will not compile from post season play.
