By 1808 Napoleons empire has occupied Holland, Italy and Germany, annexed Prussia, defeated Austria and formed alliances with Russia and Spain. Only Britain, Portugal, Sweden and Sicily still remain hostile.
In support of his Spanish allies Napoleon invades Portugal, but Napoleons true intentions soon became clear as his troops seize Spanish cities and forts, forcing the abdication of the Spanish King and replacing him with Napoleons brother Joseph Bonaparte.
However, the Spanish people revolt against the French and Britain lands an expeditionary army under Sir Arthur Wellesley in Portugal.
In the East the Ottomans and Russians have ended a war over Moldavia and Wallachia, but the Russians have signed a secret treaty with Napoleon to divide the Ottoman Empire between them and have no intention of honouring their peace with the Turks.
