Upgrading from LOTF v0.9x to DoorMUD v0.93:
==========================================
DoorMUD uses the same data file formats as the Land of the Forgotten doorgame.
If you already have a copy of Land of the Forgotten v0.9x running on your BBS,
you can (and definitely should) do the following to transfer your LOTF characters
into DoorMUD.

                          ******* NOTICE *******

If your LOTF game is registered, there is no need to re-register for DoorMUD.
Your LOTF registration file will continue to work in DoorMUD, but you MUST
read the following carefully.

==> In order for your old LOTF registration file to work, you MUST do the
upgrade steps below, even if you plan on reseting your game world.

==> Should you wish to reset the game world upon installing DoorMUD, be sure
to use the new copy of RESETALL.BAT that came with the new release. Run
this AFTER performing the upgrade steps.

                          **********************

CAREFULLY perform the following steps to upgrade from LOTF to DoorMUD:

1. Install DoorMUD from scratch, as directed in README.TXT. Be sure to put
it in an entirely new directory, and add it to your BBS's menus as a new
door. The BBS should be set to call RUNMUD.BAT to run the game (see
README.TXT). You probably should re-read all of README.TXT now, as some
   sections have been changed.

You should skip the step in README.TXT telling you to run CONFIG.EXE
at this point, though, as these changes would just get overwritten. You
will re-run CONFIG.EXE below in step instead.

2. Copy the following files FROM your LOTF directory TO your new DoorMUD
   directory:

     CREATURE.DAT
     CREATURE.RES
     CONFIG.DAT
     CONFIG.RES
     ITEM.DAT
     ITEM.RES
REGINFO.REF (only exists if your game is registered)

Do NOT copy any other files over.

3. Re-run CONFIG.EXE and look over your settings to make sure they are correct.

Please note that the Movement Point system has been changed to a Kills
Per Day system. The default setting is 35 kills per day; this will
entertain an experienced player for 15 to 25 minutes per day.

Please be aware that the default of 35 Kills Per Day is roughly equivalent
to about 115 Movement Points under the old LOTF system. Thus, DoorMUD is
slightly more generous regarding default playing time.

4. If desired, test DoorMUD's multi-node play to make sure the file-sharing
routines are working. You can test this by running multiple local copies
of the game at once. However, if you do this, YOU MUST PASS DIFFERENT NODE
NUMBERS TO THE GAME ON EACH LOCAL COPY -- ie, use "runmud /l /node 1" in one
window and "runmud /l /node 2" in another. Also, you MUST supply different
user names in each node upon entering the game. Otherwise, the game will
think that the same node and/or user is attempting to enter the game twice.

5. Once you have made sure DoorMUD runs properly, it is highly recommended
that you remove the old Land of the Forgotten game from your BBS's menus.
There is no need for your users to play the old single-node game, as
DoorMUD is superior in every way. However, you should probably keep your
old LOTF files on your hard drive, or at least back them up for safe
   keeping.

Remember, this is a BETA TEST COPY of DoorMUD. It has been found to be 100%
stable on my own system, but I cannot guarantee any performance on other
systems, especially under nonstandard file sharing methods or non-Windows
operating systems. Be sure to read the disclaimer in README.TXT.

Please report feedback via internet e-mail to me (rhythmnp@aol.com).
Any and all feedback (even if it's just telling me the game runs fine) is
very much appreciated.

Notice:
The "Top Player Rankings" option from the DoorMUD menu will not work until
after a player in the game has typed "rank", or has been in the game for 10
minutes. This is not a bug, just a minor glitch in upgrading.
